Any nurse mummies on here? How did you find pregnancy and working shifts. How was it going back to work with the hours.

Im a nurse mommy and my LO is 9 weeks old now...went on leave from 36 weeks , the job is definitely exhausting when you're so far pregnant and the workload is just too heavy along with the long hours. My feet were swollen and painful by the end of every shift. Currently on maternity leave and i have that same fear of missing the important milestones 🙈 going to try and stretch the leave as long as what i can but will need to go back as im on a skilled worker visa. Have a look on NHS jobs and see if there's a career more suited to your wanted working hours 😊

What hours do you do / what kind of work? I’m a nurse, I’m almost 12 weeks pregnant so very early days. I worked on the wards for 7+ years but recently fancied a change & started as a practice nurse. I couldn’t recommend it enough, Mon - Fri (although I do compressed hours so work full time and get Wednesdays off), bank hols and weekends off, I’m mostly sat at a desk & there’s some movement involved but not super physical or heavy. It’s working well with sickness as I can go out in between patients or my colleagues can cover me / swap things if needed. And I’ve got my own little room so can snack in between. I’d really recommend something like that, although it did take me a long time to find a practice nurse job so I appreciate they’re few and far between. Also jobs like surgical elective outpatients, clinics (chemotherapy, daycase). But then totally get that switching jobs when pregnant may not be an option. Don’t worry too much in the meantime, work need to accommodate your…

… work need to accommodate your needs. If you need a slight change in hours due to pregnancy symptoms or more breaks etc. Re missing milestones, I think Mum guilt is real! But honestly needs must. You’ll be there for your little one when you can. Also may be worth considering private healthcare such as clinical home care (a bit like a district nurse but just administering treatments in the home & its community based and 1:1). Have a think about your options long-term before you consider a career change as you might find something you love which fits better around family life! Wishing you all the luck with it x

I work in ED and had to go off sick from 30 weeks due to HG and pelvic pain as I wasn’t given any light duties.
