First pregnancy

Hi all, I found out yesterday that I’m pregnant. Really pleased but still digesting it all! I immediately went into panic mode about all things diabetes related, especially because I had really wildly high sugars on what I think was implantation day (as there was no other logical explanation). Really nervous that I won’t be able to keep my sugars in the tight control, but happy that I found this group for support!

Hi! It's scary, but book in with your doctors, tell the team you're diabetic type 1, and they'll get you to the antenatal clinic etc. I found out 21st Dec, was seen first time 28th Dec! Honestly, I see them all the time and they are so hot on keeping sugars, but they're no judgy and you're entitled to a pump when pregnant too. I'm still waiting for mine 😂 but it's on its way! According to my DSN the baby's pancreas starts working around 17/18/19 weeks so hopefully get the sugars under control by then. Mind you, with my first I found out I was pregnant at 6 months 😂 You've got this, it seems hard and scary and like you won't be able to do it, but you will. We're all going through it so reach out always. And...CONGRATULATIONS! x

Ahh thank you ! That’s so helpful and reassuring. I am lucky because I’ve been on the pump and dexcom for a few years. Fingers crossed you get your soon, it was a game changer for me!!

@LP that's really good! Mine is going through, just waiting for the consultant, but I'm seeing him next week, so fingers crossed! It seems so daunting, but just by keeping in touch so frequently, I've got my hba1c to 41, and it's never been that low! You'll get to see baby lots as well because we have extra scans as diabetics. I would ask them to book you in for a viability scan too, I wasn't told this so when I first saw the team and they were talking about it I panicked! But it's just for their backup and notes so don't worry too much. Sometimes they do and say things without thinking 100% about how it comes across. I also had a disagreement with the dietician 😂 they do seem very stuck on following gestational diabetes guidelines, so I adapt and do what I know is best for me. I think my range is set to 7.8 high instead of the 7 they want for GD. Stick to your guns if you need to! It's your body and you know your diabetes and limits better than any of them! You're going to have an amazing journey!!! x

This is so helpful! I’m getting call back from midwifery this afternoon so your messages are very helpful! Pleased about extra scans - who said there were no perks to diabetes?! Luckily the hospital I’m at have been really good with my diabetes care anyway and even preparing for pregnancy. However I hear lots of stories like what you’re saying. Really hoping it’s a positive experience! It’s all very overwhelming, still can’t quite believe I’m pregnant…!

@LP they can be very very good. I've had the best care I've ever had since becoming pregnant! There will always be some people more stuck to rules than the person's individual situation, but few and far between so hopefully you have none!
It's hard to say, but try not to panic. They're so on top of it, so helpful! I can just email my DSN and she'll reply in hours. If I'm there to see a midwife and she's in, she'll answer anything.
Of course I'm anxious and I panic so I booked a couple of extra scans 😂 but from the 20 week I had that, 28, 32 and 36! So I think we get an extra couple. Like you say, we've got to get some perks somewhere!!!
Ahhh it's amazing news, very happy for you!!! Enjoy every second! x

@LP even if you don't post, just seeing others going through the same thing and knowing you've got them is sooo helpful!
Ahh it's going fine thanks lovely! I'm 17+3 today and heard my little girls heartbeat for the first time with the midwife yesterday. They're so good as well, so supportive! Reach out if anything and good luck!!! Just enjoy every minute x

Day out after c section

Hey,
I had an emergency c section 1 week ago I obviously don't want a day out right now but I have things booked for the Easter holidays so in 2 weeks. I was just wondering if I will be overdoing it if I have a day out then or will I be ok? I would still take it as easy as I could. When did everyone feel good enough to go out?

Reduced Movements

Has anyone else gone in for monitoring for reduced movements and as soon as you arrive at triage the baby starts moving and the CTG is normal? It makes me feel like I am over reacting.

2nd pregnancy after c section

I’m not planning on getting pregnant anytime soon but in the future possibly. I just wanted to know how is pregnancy after c section like my fear is having to go through another emergency operation or even putting strain on my incision during pregnancy

Baby Movements

Hello, I’m a FTM currently 18W5D pregnant. I’ve been getting this tugging feeling in my stomach after I eat, it’s uncomfortable but not painful. I don’t know whether that’s the baby moving or round ligaments pain.

I’ve also been getting round ligament pain which is either a sharp stabbing pain or a stretching sensation. These happens whether or not I’ve eaten while the tugging feeling is only after I’ve eaten.

So, could the tugging feeling be the baby or something else.

Labour

Think im a bit confused really, i went into traige as was having contractions eveey 3-5mins. Since being here im now having them every 2-3mins which was confirmed with the machine and i think the toco was 90-100 and they feel painful and my lower back is in loads of pain but apparently im only just over 2cm dilated maybe, she has said i can stay here for a bit longer to see if things progress as had a previous quick birth as well but i dont understand why the pains are coming this quick if im only 2cm dilated and feel a bit deflated from it also.

I had a sweep this morning also.
