So I’ve started BLW with my girl and we do the occasional purée as well. She’s getting on with it great, but when she feeds herself she seems to take huge bites at a time which makes me super nervous that she’s going to choke. She seems to have the hang of chewing and swallowing so I don’t know whether I should be intervening when she takes big bites or if that could make it worse?
(Pic for attention, she loves her toast!)

(Just to note she doesn’t have any teeth yet)

She doesn’t need teeth to eat. But when you give the food and she takes bites. Are those foods made correctly. Like are they soft enough and what not. If they are then there shouldn’t be a problem. Or you can give those things to her in even smaller bites to help her. My son when he started eating he would take huge bites of banana or avocado. I was like bro that’s too much. So I either just gave him smaller pieces or help him take smaller bites.

yes I make sure everything is soft and serve food as it says to on the solid starts app. Yeah I just wasn’t sure whether I should encourage her to split out the bigger bites/how to encourage smaller ones if that makes sense

spit*

Yeah. Definitely don’t pull it out that can make it worse. But I think it’s hard at this age. Maybe just give smaller bites instead of big ones

My boy did this to me with toast today! It was super squishy and soft and he had a massive piece in his mouth 🤣 he did gag and then spit it out but I was just starting to panic!
