Hi all, we have to start giving my 15mo Movicol. We've been given the flavourless sachets but they're soooo salty I can't add them to his drinking water as he won't touch it. He doesn't eat much so I can't add it into his food as there's no guarantee he'll eat it all. The box says to mix into 1/4 cup of water but even adding a little fruit juice he will not touch it.
Any suggestions of how to give it to him?

Is it to treat constipation? Then you can get an alternative called coloxyl from pharmacy which can be given with a syringe or mixed with food. Only 0.5 ml is required per dose.

There are a few alternatives: pears, prunes or juice form of either is very good. Metamucil which can be added into food or drink. Or coloyxl as suggested by another. Please keep in mind if you are considering coloxyl not to have senna in it as that is actually a stimulant rather than stool softener

We had to give this to our son for a while, we had the chocolate flavour which made it easier to help him drink it but if your son has formula/milk you can make the movicol like normal then mix it in with the bottle of formula/milk you just have to make sure they drink it all
he's been on coloxyl, liquid paraffin and parachoc. Coloxyl stopped working for him and we need something that doesn't coat his gut and prevents nutrients being absorbed so it has to be Osmolax or Movicol đ
we have tried many natural remedies and coloxyl, they don't work for him unfortunately

We've been on movicol with our 15 month old for about 2 months, we put it in her bottle before bed. So we mix it with 120ml of water and then top up the bottle with milk to 300ml and warm it up. She's had no issue having it within that. We had no luck whatsoever with juice unfortunately

Do you know what is causing the constipation? The softeners will only help while using them but not treat the underlying issue. It could be a food sensitivity?
we are awaiting some results, so far he has low iron and low B12. Low iron can cause low appetite, so it could be contributing but also iron supplement causes constipation so we will need to continue with the stool softeners. He's basically been constipated since birth, has been breastfed the whole time.

If it makes you feel better about using movicol, it's not a stimulant laxative, it only draws water back into the colon to soften the stool so they won't get dependant on it. She also explained that after chronic constipation, the bowels tend to loosen and weaken and so they use the movicol for about a year to be able to give the bowels time to shrink and strengthen again.

I think my daughter was a bit older (maybe 22 mo) but we just mixed it up in her water bottle and diluted it down until the water bottle was full (approx 350ml maybe?). She hated eating fruit (still does at 8) and just had experiences with chronic constipation and holding poo, and needed a safe way to modify her bowel habits with softer stools. She was breastfed so there was no way to add it to her formula milk. And didnt eat much so couldnt add it to food. It took time, but eventually she drank enough every day that it worked. And her water was always made with a touch of Movicol so she never had plain water to notice the difference. It took over a year before we stopped using it every day. Which makes sense if you can't modify their diet and they don't get enough hydration. By 4 she was able to poo regularly. You'll get there!!

Try mix it into a smoothie!
My SUPER picky daughter doesnât detect it in her smoothie
I'm not too worried about giving him the movicol, more just trying to find a way to give it to him as he hates the taste. We've also been told to keep him on it for about a year to shrink his bowel back down. Have you figured out what the root cause is for your bub?
thank you xxx

We haven't unfortunately! I think she just has a sensitive digestive system, she seemed to struggle with solid food

We needed to put our bub on movicol for a while too, we put it in his bottle of milk which he never seemed to detect â€ïž good luck!
thank you, my son doesn't take bottles unfortunately otherwise that would be a great solution

My daughter is on this and we had the same issue
We do half a bottle of cows milk (because she loves it) she has drank the whole lot since we started doing this, where with the water she wouldnât touch it.

My daughter has struggled to open her bowels since she was born and we found out that she had pancreatic insufficiency which means we have to give her osmolax everyday and she is on special medication as her pancreas doesn't absorb fats and since she has been on this new medication she has been able to go
oh wow, how did you get to that result? So far we've seen a paed and had bloods done, awaiting coeliac results but no other suggestions have been made yet. Bloods came back normal aside from iron and B12

Incognito we ended up having to do a bowel sample which was ordered through her paediatrician which we ended up seeing a gastroentronolgist and he diagnosed her with what I mentioned before
