I’m 25 weeks currently. Wanting to know when did everyone start leaking colostrum and storing it? I am getting mixed answers about expressing it can cause early labor?
Any advise

I’ve read it’s not safe until full term to pump, but if you are leaking, you can collect it and save in syringes I heard ..

that’s what I am getting to i just don’t know! Too much info on the internet makes me crazy

I would ask your doctor

I’ve been collecting by hand expressing. I started at 23 weeks because I had been producing SO MUCH lol! My doctor said if you aren’t having contractions or cramping when you hand express you should be okay. In reality the amount of oxytocin released into your blood stream by expression is pretty equal to the amount released when being intimate with your partner:) it depends on the person ofc too. But if you needed to hear if anyone else had started early, yes I have and it’s been going well🫶🏼I hope this helps

And then store it in syringes

I’ve also done this! It’s very useful :)

Never leaked prior to birth

I’m 27 weeks and started leaking at 24 weeks, I was told to not hand express or pump due to early labor and can cause clogged ducts if you don’t get it all out which upset me because I feel like I should be able to collect it while I have it 😭 my doctor said to get a drip tray pretty much for breast feeding and collect it that way, put it in a syringe and freeze! Make sure you write date you collected it when you freeze. My doctor told me to start pumping or hand expressing colostrum 36 weeks, but if it leaks out on its own and you catch it that’s fine too. ☺️ there’s so many different opinions I’ve heard myself and I’m still very confused because I want to collect mine so bad just not leaking enough on my own at one time to collect right now unfortunately 😑 but every doctor is different and so is everyone’s experience with it!

They have collectors, I would just use that before you talk to your doctor. Stuff like the haaka ladybug. There's no stimulation at all, literally just sits there. The version I had had a small hole to drain which can be annoying cuz it'll drip if you forget about it and change positions 🥲
Not sure if all do though

i’ve always heard hand expressing too early can cause labor so it’s best to wait until about 36 weeks. but if you’re leaking i’d say just letting it drip into a hakka wouldn’t do harm since you aren’t expressing it. i will say when i went into labor with my son it was because i was practicing using my pump (39 weeks). if anything i’d for sure ask your doctor

You should always get the okay from your doctor before doing it and usually week 32 and on is when it’s possible but that’s just what I’ve been told I haven’t tried it myself.
