I’m thinking of giving my little one baby rice to help fill him up. I know the packet says 4 months plus.
My boy is 4 months at the end of this month.
Has anyone given it to their little one earlier?

I'd recommend researching on the nhs website the side effects of feeding before 4 months

Babies that age only need milk. If they're not full, offer more milk. It's packed full of nutrients to help their growth and development. Baby rice has very little nutritional value so you'd be filling them up on empty calories.

Baby rice doesn't have any nutritional value so would just fill space that you'd want to be filled with formula or breastmilk.
Id personally just increase their feeds.

If gut is not developed properly, giving a baby so young any form of food can cause issues later on in life or during the toddler stage. It is recommended to start 5 and a half months - 6 months.

The recommended weaning age is 6 months. A lot of these baby food companies just want to make more money from parents buying their products earlier

babies only need milk for nutrients until they’re 12 months old. food beforehand is just for fun and to get prepared for eating :)

Also won't make him sleep any better if that's the main reason why.

I came here to say the same x
Thankyou, I was debating between increasing his feeds or introducing baby rice. This has helped my decisions x

NHS recommendations is 6m for weaning and as above baby rice has no nutritional value. I'd give milk instead. I did however give baby rice mixed with veg to my 8m old.

they actually need iron from food after 6 months cos their own levels drop.

Western A Price foundation has some great advice on feeding little ones especially 4-6months, rice tends to be something you should give them later as they don't have the digestive enzymes to process grains at this point, more bioavailable nutrients like egg yolks introduced gradually are easier for them to handle and more nutrient dense at this stage x

Have you checked baby meets all of the criteria to start weaning? Also weaning before 6 months is not recommended as babies gut is not developed enough to cope with food, which can cause allergies and long term digestive issues. Unless advised by a medical professional for medical reasons, I wouldn’t start weaning early, I would just offer more milk

Research shows that weaning early doesn't help babies to sleep longer, if this is the reason you're trying to fill him up! Babies under 6 months don't need anything but milk, so if he's hungry increase his ounces per bottle, or add an extra bottle in.

I have my son was 4 months old yesterday and hes had baby porridge about 2 weeks ago, and he’s absolutely fine and thrives off it , I also did it with my first born and he’s 2 now x
