Pumping

I have been excusivy breastfeeding my baby for 5 months. I want to start pumping so that sometimes she can be fed through a bottle by someone else. However I have heard too many stories of babies no longer wanting to feed from the boob! Im scared of this to happen as I want to carry on BF most of the time and I dont want her to no longer feed on me. The plan is only to feed with a bottle soemtimes, so that im able to lesve her with dad for a little while. Would love to get some thoughts on this. Are there any tips to avoid this?

Hi! My little one is nearly 3mo, and I’ve started pumping once per day, in the evening so my other half can give a bottle occasionally. (I’m storing in the freezer for when needed.) I’ve not had any issues with my little one going back to the breast at all, I think the more common issue is getting them to take a bottle in the first place. My little one definitely prefers the boob to the bottle. 🥛 xx

I had to pump very early on (1 week post partum) and my boy is now 6.5 months, he will take the boob and the bottle no problem!
I think at 5 months you may have more issue with getting her to take a bottle as a lot of the time they reject them if they’ve been exclusively breastfed

You don’t actually have to introduce a bottle at all, from 6 months babies can have sippy cups. I’ve heard people have a lot of success from this x

My son had a severe lip and tongue tie that we had fixed around 4/5 weeks. He was only taking bottles until we had it fix and never had the intention to regularly breastfeed. He was strictly bottles until we had it fixed and it was like a switch flipped , he now LOVES the boob. I work 50 hours a week so it honestly made it easier for me to return that he didn’t mind bottles, and now he only nurses at night when I’m off work or my days off. Even when I was on maternity leave and trying to EBF there were times he preferred a bottle over the boob or vise versa.

10/10 recommend giving it a try so you can have your you time and not have to worry if baby is eating while you’re away

How soon can you express? I want to do the same as you, but I’ve been told to wait at least 3 months. Is that right? X

I was told by midwife to start expressing when baby was a week old bc he hadn’t gained weight! I think as long as you have established breastfeeding it should be okay? I think they suggest not to bc it CAN cause an oversupply but doesn’t always for everyone x

When did you circumcise your baby?
If you DID NOT or DO NOT have a circumcised son DO NOT comment this post is not for you!

Did you wait a certain amount of time or have it done immediately?
Again respectfully, this is only for the parents who choose to do so.
opinions about how not necessary it is will not be appropriate for this post. Thank you in advance. 🩵

My boyfriend booked a trip for us to go to mexico for a week as my push present. I have severe anxiety leaving my 7 month old with my mom. I know she will be in good hands but she’s exclusively breast fed for the most part but accepts bottles just fine. i have all my pumping parts packed and will pump when baby normally eats but i don’t want baby to forget me or have latch issues when i return!! any mommas ever experience this?

Postpartum

I’m only 3 days postpartum (FTM) and already have extremely bad anxiety. I’m crying every night, as I think of another night of no sleep. My baby will not settle in his cot, he cries every moment we put him down unless in his chair rocker. So me and my partner are having to alternate after 3/4 hours of being awake with him downstairs. I’m trying everything to get him to settle. It’s a load of overwhelming stress. I’m 23, I was desperate for a baby and now I have one and feel completely useless. I miss it just being me and my partner.

When does it get better?

I was crying on the phone with the perinatal mental health team today and the lovely lady, bless her, kept assuring me that it gets better. I kept telling her I hope so because people have been saying that since having my LO and it just feels like it keeps getting worse. She assured me it gets better....

Night time routine

Heya, my 3 week old daughter is currently exclusively breastfed and I’m not pumping. Can anyone recommend the best way to share the load with my partner? At the moment I’m doing all the feeds/burbs/settling and my partner is sleeping through which obviously isn’t sustainable, I’m trying to work out the best way to get him involved. Any advice very much appreciated!
