Travel cots on holiday

We are heading off on holiday and the hotel are providing a cot for the room. My baby is 4 months old. Feeling a bit funny about putting him in a bed that has had loads of other babies/children sleeping in it. I don’t really want to take a travel cot as it isn’t included in the luggage. Am I over thinking it? Do people just put their babies in and have no issues? Do they put anything in place such as taking their own sheets/mattress protector or topper?

I haven’t figured it out myself yet, but I’m going end of the month and I’m probably going to take my own mattress protector and sheet xx

I run a B&B and we provide a travel cot and mattress but ask that guests bring their own bedding for babies in line with safesleep guidelines. Definitly worth taking your own x

Amazing thankyou!

I did use some with my first and will soon use some during our coming holiday with my baby. I usually bring a large muslin cloth as beding and the Dettol spray to use on the cot, anti bacterial wipes top

I usually bring our own pack and play, but I'm definitely a bit of a germaphobe when it comes to my little guy since he isn't fully vaccinated yet. So at minimum I would bring our own sheets and mattress/mattress protector.

We have had some good experiences and some bad experiences with travel cots so tend to take our own now if we can. Traveling in the UK should be fine although we did have one hotel that just put a folded up duvet in as a mattress. But abroad sleep guidelines are different. We have had a variance of problems from there being no cot when we arrived (even though we had paid for it), then once there was no base board so a mattress on to bars. Then another time no mattress. I agree with the above take your own sheets.

We stayed in a hotel recently in the UK and it was a travel cot with mattress and sheets but right on the floor..we brought our bedside cot with us anyway because we thought she'd sleep better in what she's used to. My friend recently went abroad and they had a similar cot provided and found it really hard to put their baby to bed because it was low. I guess they aren't likely to have the bassinet bit set up.

I've always just taken my own sheet so it's some familiarity from home x

We went on hols with ours at a similar age. Are you taking the pram? After much tossing and turning, I decided to get a Moses basket mattress and used that in the bassinet for the pram. It was plenty roomy and gave me peace of mind that it was our familiar items. She slept in there at night the whole week and meant she also wasn’t low to the floor

We never brought own sheets but the benefit of doing it is that it smells like home!

It creeped me out to use the cot in the room too. We first took her away at 11 weeks old and she slept In her pram (had the silver cross that she could sleep in) We then took a travel cot when she was under 1 and then all other times have used their cot with our own bedding ! We had a really Good travel cot that packed up in a bag and just shove it in the hold. Usually big cots in Europe! They do provide bedding and it's cleaned every other day along with the normal bed! Just strip it. We typically always go to Greece and they are brilliant for kids. Xx

Take your own sheets and blanket, that’s what I did , at least I can control that aspect of the sleeping arrangements for baby. He slept better with his own familiar stuff as well

We have always used a travel cot provided by hotels in UK and abroad - never had a problem. We always take our own sheet as a few times the sheet has been fleece and too hot. Our little one has slept in all the cots provided from age 5months to now 18months.

We traveled quite a bit when my son was 4-6 months old and used the hotel’s/AirBnB’s/family’s cots (different family members we visited got a secondhand cot for our stay). As long as it’s clean. I brought a sheet but that’s it.
