Hi everyone my babys 2 weeks old he had a tongue tie which has now been snipped so initially struggled to latch in hospital. We were in for 5 days so the hospital gave me a pump and since ive been exclusively pumping. Baby now latches once or twice a day normally of an evening but struggles and gets worked up when trying. He shows interest for the breast but does just struggle with the latch. Ive been to lactation consultants and midwife’s and a few have said as he grows and gets bigger he will find it easier. He was born 6lb 4oz so is a small baby. Has anyone else had any luck getting there baby to latch after exclusively pumping. It would make my life easier over night and when out and about to not have to pump and have the option of both.

Learn more about our guidelines.I’d recommend nipple shield to help with latch, then removing it once he gets the hang of it, the more you bottle feed the harder it is for them to learn to breastfeed, all though it can be frustrating for him I’d try and just keep putting him on the boob and try and latch when he’s calm not when he’s hungry hungry, try and latch when he’s stirring rather than waiting till he cries for it xx
