I've been breastfeeding my son for 9 weeks now. It's been a bit of a struggle with latching but we've been persevering and it's been very up and down! The past few days his latch feels very different and it's quite uncomfortable which I'm struggling with. I've been close to giving up a few times but want to do what's best for him! He had a bottle of expressed milk the other afternoon and I noticed his lips don't really flange out - particularly his bottom one. I tried pulling it out but unless I held out, he sucked it straight back in again. I'm not entirely sure what I'd be looking for, but I can't see any obvious tie but am wondering if there's something.. anyone else experienced similar?
I've emailed a lactation specialist so hopefully we can get some help, otherwise I'm not sure I can carry on ðŸ˜

He definitely has a tongue tie which bottles you using?

You should start pumping for now so your supy doesn’t drop
Do you think? We use mam bottles. I did ask the GP at his 8 week appointment to check his mouth but she couldn't see anything obvious either. In terms of supply, he's putting on more than average weight and I pump 4oz every morning no problem 🤔

No switch to an event bottle or a evenflo my girl had a tongue tie and shes now 7 weeks no issues with breast or bottle
Ah ok, I will have a look at them, thank you. He only actually has one bottle a day (overnight) but hasn't had one at all for almost a week now

If breastfeeding hurts or is uncomfortable is not normal at all it shouldnt hurt but keep trying because it took like 2-3 weeks after birth for the latch to get better
Yeah, it's been really up and down for the whole 9 weeks. Sometimes it seems to be getting better then it doesn't 😠not sure what's changed the last few days but it feels different!

Lips definitely need to uncurl for latch to not hurt.
We have an appointment with a lactation consultant so hopefully we figure it out!

Maybe try a nipple shield, my little boy wasn’t latching properly and dropped too much weight and a midwife suggested and gave me a nipple shield and it’s changed our feeding completely! I wish someone has suggested it to me earlier. Either ask your midwife about it, they may give you one or I’ve also got some from boots
