Hi Ladies! I’m unemployed and on UC with little support for my 17 month old Son. I just enrolled in the Open University bed Nursery would really help. I’ve saw conflicting information online and wonder if i put him in Nursery when he’s 2 so i have more time to focus on my studies will it be free if he only takes the 15 free hours? Will i have to put my money in at all? It’s so confusing i’ve been to few open days but i haven’t really got a clear answer anywhere and would love some advice x

So from my understanding as I’m also In the process of looking for when my daughter is 2, it’s 15 hours pro rata so will actually only be around 12 hours per week.
Some/most nurseries charge surcharges for things like materials, play bits etc and food/snacks as they don’t like people bringing in packed lunches due to allergies etc, eaning even with the free hours there’s likely to be charges. I’ve been quoted £700 a month by one nursery with the 15 hours deducted. Minus the 20% tax credits is still around £560 a month for just 3 morning 8-12
However like you I’m also very confused by this all! So this is just what I’ve looked into so far.

I’m currently with open university and my daughter was going to nursery from 9 months to now . If you have a look in the website you can apply for funding direct through the open university page , it’s up to to £4 per hour , 8hrs per week for a 30 credit module and 16hrs per week for a 60 credit module xx
Sorry just read your post , I haven’t gone through uc as I always thought you had to work a certain amount of hours to qualify for the funding . Sorry for no help for that part however defo have a look at the open uni website xx
YIKES my budget is v tight, if i only do the two days to not go over the 11 hour cap do you reckon i would still be looking into the 100s for the month?

From what I’ve read online it will still be a couple hundred a month. Lots of people online say to look at a childminder instead as they have lower overheads and can normally only have 2/3 kids at a time so no extra staff wages etc etc xx
