My baby doesn't want to latch anymore.. 9 days in and breastfeeding is such a struggle. Need to wake him every 2/3 hours, he only cries refusing to take my boob. Started expressing and giving a bottle. Feels like my breastfeeding journey is already over? I'm so devastated and feel like I'm failing him. Been seeing midwives/lactation consultants but everyone says something else which makes it really confusing

My first born refused the boob from birth until day 4 when she had her tongue tie released. I then spent the next 10ish days having to wake her for each feed, until she exceeded her birth weight (as advised by midwives and HVs). She was still a ‘lazy’ feeder and I worried about her feeding constantly for a few more weeks before seeing a lactation consultant who advised her tongue tie had healed and it had to be released again. I’d say feeding became more consistent/‘easier’ at around week 5-6? It was so hard but I was super stubborn and refused to give up - you have to do what is best for you though

It can take 6 weeks for breastfeeding to establish.
If it’s something you really want? Keep going for it. There are usually lots of local breastfeeding cafes that can support. Often what I think is great about these is they’re attended by other mums that can give in the moment advice too.
My second doesn’t latch great. So I’m heading to get helpme for.
But if you decided to stop and bottle feed (breast milk or formula) try not to be hard on yourself. You’re taking care of your baby and breastfeeding is hard!

2 hours seems a bit early to wake him. Do you know how his weight gain is going?
If I try and wake my daughter too early she won’t feed, or she does with an appalling latch. Maybe at the next check/weigh in ask if you lengthen the time between feeds if all is looking good? Could help
