Does your husband allow you to go to the gym without him?

My husband told me because of his own insecurities and "extreme testosterone filled horny guys" im not allowed to go to the gym by myself hes not comfortable with it. Am I overreacting for being upset?

Oh wait- I answered the title question. Yes my husband ‘lets me’ - I don’t ask other than to make sure he has the toddler.

No - you are not overreacting. He needs to deal with his own insecurity

I would tell him he needs to get over it and then walk out the door and go to the gym

No man at any gym is interested in a woman just working out. No matter what TikTok says. Men workout and mind their business unless you look like you’re gonna hurt yourself. I think my husband would probably object to me dressing immodestly (modern girls wear incredibly inappropriate attire to the gym these days) but he absolutely allows me to go to the gym alone.

Just to clarify I answered the title question.

I put yes to the title question. You aren’t over reacting, I’d start thinking about now you can safely leave as this is incredibly controlling and he’s unlikely to change.

Wth. What small dick energy. I go salsa dancing by myself 😂 it’s my hobby. Gym is a hobby. All the men there are focused on looking at themselves in the mirror and comparing their biceps w other men. They might glimpse at a woman but in my experience they don’t ever approach you everyone’s doing their own thing w their earphones in and music blasted. I have friends that go gym by themselves they tag team because otherwise, who looks after the baby/toddler/kids? One goes, comes home the other goes comes home. That’s the common theme I’ve heard. It’s rare that I hear of both parents going same time only because of the kids it’s more common to do that when no kids. If he’s not allowing you to go gym what OTHER places is he not allowing you to go? If I invite you to a bar or shisha lounge for drinks or even a club to go dancing would he “allow” you to go? 🤨

My husband doesn't "allow" or "let" me doing anything... I just do it..

This is extremely concerning controlling behaviour. His insecurities are not your responsibility

Avatar

I used to go to the gym plenty as a teen / young adult and literally the only man to ever approach me was a senior citizen asking if I knew how to use a certain piece of equipment .

Avatar

I thought we all did our own thing unless we are in a workout class then we try to make friends?

Avatar

By that reasoning o n you shouldn’t go go work either.
I go whenever and my oh pays for it. Besides if I was waiting for him it would be a long time!

Avatar

I answered the title question aswell. As yes I'm allowed to go to gym on my own. The answer to are you over reacting is no.

Avatar

Oooops I answered the title. Not the question. You’re not overreacting

Avatar

What????? He needs therapy, seriously. Controlling and crazy tbh.

Avatar

Controlling and machist. What is his own thinking about women while he is at the gym ? Does he see then as pieces of meet ? I would actually reconsider my relationship with a guy like this. Not ok in many ways

Avatar

lol I have two kids. We basically have to trade off going to the gym so someone is always here for the kids

Avatar

That's stupid and kinda controlling tbh. Horny dudes are everywhere

Avatar

“Allow”? He’s never stopped me doing anything ever. His insecurities are not your prison. You being “not allowed to go” anywhere as a fully grown adult is shocking. You are not overreacting!

Avatar

mmm. if you dress up super sexy to gym then there’s a chance a anyone could check you out for their own lust. he isn’t lies about that part. however, if you dress gym like bit more casual and modest, maybe he might feel little less concerned. I mean would you get insecure or mad for girls check him out at gym alone?? or stare at him . you and your husband need to communicate and set boundaries in this area. i wouldn’t say control. i look at this more alike He want protect you, he fear those guys might hassle you by go gym solo cuz he knows you ARE beautiful & amazing. he’s know it.
I feel this about my husband cuz he is smoking hottie and witnessed myself how girls checked him out while he was all blind and faithful to me. I told him how I feel and what can we do about this. He was first got mad then I shifted my tone and words choice. I tried again explaining to him. he understood my fear and insecurity, he made me feel secure again which I able trust him

Avatar

we communicate this stuff and questions each other in different situations and know we can count on each other. You and your husband must talking this zone even it’s uncomfortable but necessary it. ask him lot questions is clothes, is the trust, is there guys you know might do something to you while hubby isn’t present, even if have to sign up different gym where both you comfortably even be solo go gym. either of you two are wrong or right. the point here: Discovering this whole thing.

Avatar

I can but I just moved to a women’s gym and I absolutely love it 😍😍 don’t have to worry about any of this

Avatar

“Allow” is a strong word.
Definitely ok to be upset about this

Avatar

You’re a grown adult. There’s no “allowing “ you to go or not go. If you want to go tell his ass sucks for him you’re going when you want to go.

Avatar

My husband would never tell me what I am ‘allowed’ to do both because I wouldn’t let him and he knows this is controlling and wrong

If I want to go to to the gym, I’m going to the gym, he can cry about his insecurities on his own and grow up

Avatar

Okay wait theees two questions here lol… mine did not agree with me going by myself but everyone is different

Is this clever or cruel?

My husband and i were talking and with social media and the internet in general being a terrifying dumpster fire, we are trying to figure out the best way to keep our son safe while still teaching him how to safely be online and moderation.

We landed on the idea of giving him the 90's kid treatment. A computer in the living room for us to keep an eye on what hes doing online, and once we feel hes mature enough to hang with friends without adult supervision he gets a flip phone. When we feel he is responsible enough and he earns and saves up the money for the physical phone, case, and screen cover, then we will be happy to take him to get a smart phone.

I thought this was air tight, but now my brother says its cruel to give a kid a flip phone, and besides he can just use his friends phones at school.

My husband and i remember a time before the internet, and we remember having complete access to something no one understood yet. We saw unspeakable things and are always battling with the urge to put the phone and social media down. I dont want that for my son, especially with his brain so vulnerable still.

Partner no longer wants baby #2

Before our son was born we originally both wanted minimum 2 kids but we were hoping for 3-4. My partner found the birth traumatic to watch and also struggled a lot with the newborn/baby stage. He no longer wants to have any more children and it’s completely breaking my heart. I need another baby. We’ve spoken about it a lot and the options. He said he wasn’t COMPLETELY closed off to it so I asked him to try and work through his feelings and reconsider his decision. He eventually said he definitely doesn’t want another. I know that I will always want one and my feelings will never change. Do we have to break up or does anyone know anything else I can do to help change his mind? Has anyone else’s partner said this and then changed their mind? I don’t want to break up because I adore him and our life together and I’d hate to split up our family for “selfish” reasons and make my son miss out on having both of us together but I just don’t know what to do

Nursery funding

My child turned 9 months last week. I applied for government funded hours nearly 2 months ago and so well within the required timeframe for the April term, however upon receiving my first invoice without the funding applied and having questioned this, I have now been informed that the stretched funding doesn’t start until 4th May.

Has anyone else been told it won’t start until May?

The government site states it should start from April 1st, and so I intentionally set my nursery start and return to work as the start of April for that reason, knowing that I wouldn’t be able to afford the nursery on my sole income without the funding

Jealous of my husband

I’m so jealous of him and it’s making me resentful. We have a ten week old and I’m jealous that he is at work all day. I’m jealous he can leave for lunch and actually eat an uninterrupted lunch. Take a phone call uninterrupted. Chat with a friend he runs in to uninterrupted. Even go to the bathroom when he wants uninterrupted. He comes home from work when he wants. He’s not on a set schedule. Some days are late some are early. It depends on when he’s done. I’m jealous he can come home at 10pm and shower, eat and go right to bed uninterrupted because I already have the baby asleep. He doesn’t have to worry about anything house wise or baby wise because I’ve done it all. Meanwhile I’m covered in puke and crap and smell like rotten milk. When he is home he is VERY active and helpful. So it’s not that. I’m just jealous his world hasn’t changed and mine has I guess. This isn’t something he’s doing wrong so I’m not sure how to get past this. I wish I could keep him home all day because that’s how helpful he is, but I understand he obv needs to work.
