Feeding after Division

My second son had his tongue tie division today at 5 weeks old. Before the division he couldn’t latch on the breast at all so I’ve been using shields up until now. Now that he’s had the division I’m trying to latch him onto the breast first and then switch to the shield if he gets too agitated. Sometimes he latches (not deeply although it’s not painful so I’m thinking this is progress?) and sometimes he doesn’t. I have noticed some progress since having the division. For example he can now keep a dummy in his mouth whereas before it would take many failed attempts and also he can stick his tongue out further now.

My first son didn’t have tongue tie, he used nipple shields for 19 weeks and then was able to feed directly from the breast for 2.5 years.

I’m just wondering what you all experienced in terms of latch directly to the breast after a division? I’m also wondering if he’ll latch a lot better as he gets older like my first son did?

Have you been given exercises to do? There are a few oral exercises to do to stretch the area out to make sure it doesn't reattach and also to help the tongue move in the proper way. These will probably help greatly. Also if you haven't yet, an osteopath might be able to help with any lingering tension which may be preventing him from opening his jaw properly 🥰

hi! my son got his revision around 6 weeks (now is 9 weeks old) and he seemed to latch a lot better right away. before the revision i had stopped using shields and just pushed through the pain so he would get use to my nipple.
just keep at it and let him use you as a pacifier so he gets the feeling down daily. my ENT said pushing the tongue to the roof of his mouth was a good exercise to help not have it reattach but also to let his latch improve. i also would wash my hands and then let him suck on my finger to see how the latch was happening so i knew what needed to be adjusted if it felt off

When did you circumcise your baby?
If you DID NOT or DO NOT have a circumcised son DO NOT comment this post is not for you!

Did you wait a certain amount of time or have it done immediately?
Again respectfully, this is only for the parents who choose to do so.
opinions about how not necessary it is will not be appropriate for this post. Thank you in advance. 🩵

My boyfriend booked a trip for us to go to mexico for a week as my push present. I have severe anxiety leaving my 7 month old with my mom. I know she will be in good hands but she’s exclusively breast fed for the most part but accepts bottles just fine. i have all my pumping parts packed and will pump when baby normally eats but i don’t want baby to forget me or have latch issues when i return!! any mommas ever experience this?

Postpartum

I’m only 3 days postpartum (FTM) and already have extremely bad anxiety. I’m crying every night, as I think of another night of no sleep. My baby will not settle in his cot, he cries every moment we put him down unless in his chair rocker. So me and my partner are having to alternate after 3/4 hours of being awake with him downstairs. I’m trying everything to get him to settle. It’s a load of overwhelming stress. I’m 23, I was desperate for a baby and now I have one and feel completely useless. I miss it just being me and my partner.

When does it get better?

I was crying on the phone with the perinatal mental health team today and the lovely lady, bless her, kept assuring me that it gets better. I kept telling her I hope so because people have been saying that since having my LO and it just feels like it keeps getting worse. She assured me it gets better....

Crawling

Did anyone’s little one start crawling yet? I feel like we are falling behind but really have no idea. I’m trying to introduce more floor time but it’s been rough because of having hardwood floors and our 80 lb oblivious to life dog. I got us a carpet for the living room and trying to put the dog out more when the weather allows. She sits like a pro and will roll to get the things she needs😅 but no real signs of crawling yet.

Night time routine

Heya, my 3 week old daughter is currently exclusively breastfed and I’m not pumping. Can anyone recommend the best way to share the load with my partner? At the moment I’m doing all the feeds/burbs/settling and my partner is sleeping through which obviously isn’t sustainable, I’m trying to work out the best way to get him involved. Any advice very much appreciated!
