I recently discovered how bad dishwasher tablets are in terms of the chemicals that are left all over our eating and cooking utensils. For anyone else that already uses non-toxic alternatives to normal dishwasher tablets and other household items please give me some tips for where I can start to swap things out?? Cleaning products, chopping boards in terms of micro plastics or anything else?? I’m really keen to make our Home as toxin free as possible.

Can’t recommend Nancy Birtwhistle enough. I have swapped out all our cleaning sprays, bleach, laundry detergent and once we have finished dishwasher tablets will be doing that too.
It’s all natural and works out much cheaper too.

Look up Dr Bronner. Their Pure-Castile soap can be used for an array of stuff, including brushing your teeth! They have some lovely scents. It can wash dishes, but isn’t recommended for dishwasher use, because of the suds. Can pretty much replace all of your other household cleaning products, though!

I also recommend Castile soap for all things washing apart from dishwasher I use it as soap in foaming bottles I buy on Amazon and use part Castile soap and top up with water and it makes a lovely bubble lather. Soap nits are good for laundry! I have tried lots of different brands for alternatives to dishwasher pods and honestly I don’t find anyone them as effective, lots of stuff comes out dirty no matter what the cycle 🙄 that’s currently the mains thing let slide because other wise I’m running it twice to clean the same dishes and sometimes that still doesn’t work 😅

When our dishwasher pods are finished we'll be looking for alternative too - for now ive stopped washing kids stuff in there but stillllll

I get smol dishwasher tablets delivered every month and they’re great. I do still add salt to my dishwasher

I use Ecover for dish washing tablets, not sure if it’s the best but we only use dish washer a few times a week. Chopping board wise, we have wood. Utensils I use wooden or stainless steel.
Avoid non stick pans as they leach awful chemicals, stainless steel all the way! Or there’s other options like cast iron but they’re more expensive.
Things like plastic tupperware can be replaced with glass. We went to ikea not long ago and they have good quality glass containers so we stocked up on loads. Wrap food in reusable wraps and absolutely avoid cling film - it’s probably the worst for shedding phtalates and microplastics.
Kettles are often made of plastic which is awful as it will leach every time it’s heated- we have a stainless steel one, does have a tiny bit of plastic in the measuring window but 100% stainless steel ones don’t exist.
Baby bottles if you use them.. Try and go for glass and food grade silicone over the plastic ones!

And if you can afford it at some point, a water filter! We invested in an under the sink one

Also try to avoid aluminium foil where possible.. especially in the oven as when heated I’m pretty sure it sheds aluminium into food.
It’s a minefield 😅

Wooden chopping boards and cooking utensils, purdy and fig cleaning products, I think bees wax candles are better than other candles

Miniml products are really good. I use the antibacterial spray for general cleaning of kitchen sides. The lavender one smells really nice.
I use ecover for washing up liquid and dish washer tablets. For clothes washing I use wilton, the cedarwood one smells soo good. I usually buy bulk and top up bottles as I go to save some money.
Also white vinegar is really good for cleaning any glass or stainless steel. It leaves no streaks and the strong vinegar smell doesn't last which is good.
For cooking if you can still get carote pans they are non toxic and non stick. Not sure if they are still available but I think there are similar brands on Amazon that look identical and are also non toxic. And chopping boards I have bamboo ones which are naturally anti bacterial.
Also i recommend trying to get lead and cadmium free dinner plates, bowls and mugs as well. I have vancasso ones from amazon, they are ceramic and specifically state they are lead and cadmium free.
I hope this helps 🙂

Thanks all I have lots to read up on. It really does feel like a minefield. I just want to keep my baby safe if it’s not too much to ask!?
