Episiotomy healing

I had a forceps delivery on Weds 18th and needed an episiotomy to help. On Sunday 22nd I went back into triage as I was feeling alot of pain and pressure. I was given pain relief and some antibiotics and it feels slightly better.

When I examined myself tonight I can see that the stitches going into my vagina area have come apart and it looks like an open wound. There is no extra blood, bad smells or oozing of pus which is good news.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Will it heal back together without additional stitching? Whenever I sit it’s uncomfortable and I can feel a tugging. Likewise, I was walk for 5/10 mins I feel in pain with a build of pressure in the area.

Just seeking some reassurance.

You'll need to be re assessed. It sounds like you've done too much and theyve opened up. I had this happen and they did jus knit back together but you do need to be checked

Yes I had the same thing after forceps and episiotomy and was worried at the time, it did heal by itself but I would definitely get it checked out if you’re at all worried. Just for peace of mind. I had mine looked at by my midwife and I went into hospital for retained placenta at 1 month and they checked it then too and said it would be fine.

Mine was uncomfortable/tugging pain and pressure like you say for maybe 2-3 weeks. After that I had some minor pelvic floor issues for a few months and a bit of pain but not all the time. You’re still very early on and it will get much better I promise. I’m now 1 year postpartum and it was all fully healed and back to normal by like 6ish months.

Thank you everyone, it’s really reassuring to read your experiences and how they are similes to mine. I have another midwife appt soon so I will ask her to check.

I feel like I was prepared and clued up pregnancy and labour but not so much about postpartum aftercare.

I sat on a round pressure cushion to help with the pain. Please get it checked out. An open wound in that area will lead to an infection which will slow the healing down and the quality of the scar.

Keep walking to a minimum! From my experience an episiotomy is more painful and delicate than a C section. (I have had them both). Trust me you need to take it very easy with your movement and cleaning of the area.

Definitely get checked again for your own reassurance, but try and "air out" as much as possible. It will heal itself but as its not a dry area, it can take longer so I was advised to lie down with a puppy pad underneath (I was still bleeding) and legs up/open. It sounds bizarre but does help!

Speech

How many words does your 18mo have? We've got about 6/7 and have been told by nursery and the health visitor thats the lower end/slightly behind. She understands very well, but rarely uses the words she knows and was a late babbler.

Just wondering if anyone else had been through the same with any advice to help her speech?

Dummies?!

Looking for some advice, my nearly 5 week old baby will suck on a dummy for around 1-2 mins then spits it out and start fussing again that he wants it, sometimes he will even wake up from a nap for it. This will continue until he falls into a deep sleep and eventually when the dummy falls out he won’t wake back up . He will also settle without a dummy so does he maybe just not want it or are the dummies too big for his mouth I’m not sure 😩 we have tried the mam newborn orthodontic ones and the tommee tippee 0-2 month (the teat on these are a lot bigger). He is also formula fed, has anyone else been through this if so all advice welcome 🙏🏻
