I volunteer at my local church to help run the under 4s group. Most of the little ones are between 1 - 4. The children are honestly so well behaved, they are 20-30 of them each Sunday. We are on a rota so most volunteers only volunteer 2 Sundays a month. We have 2 little ones who are Forster children and the little girl from memory is just turned 1 and the little boy is 4. We give every single each a bowl of snacks so everyone has their own bowls. The session only runs for 30 mins and 45 mins to an hour if these a special service. The little boy would constantly ask for more food like none stop. In the past I’ve given them a little extra snacks because I felt bad and i didn’t know what the situation was and why he was with a foster family. A few times I would notice that the foster parents would give them snacks, with fruits, veggies, sausage rolls and breadsticks with juice and all but he would still come and beg for more food. It’s getting to the point where it’s quite upsetting because these quite a few children and if we gave him more, we would have to give all the children more and we are not able to always do that! He would go around and try asking the individual volunteers for more snacks. It’s so heart breaking. When these less children, we are able to give multiple rounds of snacks but on Sundays where it’s fully we can’t do that as it won’t be fair for everyone. We’ve spoke to the Foster parents and they said it’s a constant thing with them also and it’s because of what his life was like with his parents! It’s sad because his the only one who ask for more out of all the children and my mumma heart aches for him!

It sounds like he has enough to eat so maybe not even hungry and just seeking comfort. Can you offer him something else like stickers? I don’t know if that would be a good idea. It’s a sad situation sorry you have to witness that

I read an article about something similar of children who come from poverty stricken backgrounds. There was a group of 100 families/children participating in documentation of their life over a time period and every week they attended a session where there was free buffet food readily available for everyone to eat. They witnessed babies as young as 1 hiding food in their nappies and socks to eat later and older children 3+ hiding food such as bread to feed their younger siblings 🥹
Is there any way you could maybe space out this child’s snacks without it being known? I mean like assuming you put 5 things in the snack bowl, hold back 1 so when he comes to ask for more, you can give it to him in order to satiate his desire to ask for more?
Or would any church volunteers be happy to donate some fruit weekly to give to him instead as a more discrete option? Hopefully once he realises food is readily available and he won’t starve, it won’t be a problem long term.

As long as they are not wasting food, I am not of the idea of denying food to children. If this is a bad habit, at least he is confident to ask for more.
If he is the only kid asking for more, you could give him more once and warn him snack time is over. I wouldn't worry about other children because maybe they don't even want.
You could also prepare snacks before children arrive and clean up immediately to make sure there is nothing in sight after they finish the first round and when he comes you just say sorry, there is nothing left.

Super common!!!
Maybe don’t give him a bowl. Give him one and tell him he needs to ask xyz for the next one, and then when he does that he gets to ask someone else for another one.
If that happens too fast “you have to ask xyz for the next one when the timer goes off (set for 3-5 min)”
So it’s the same amount but he gets like a scavenger hunt for his stuff.

Oh, you mentioned he is the only one of all the children who asks for more, so I assumed he was the only one, not all of them.
But if you don't want to find gentle ways to tell him 'no', I don't see how you could stop it. 😕

Does he eat the food right away when he gets extra or does he stock pile it or try to take it home? Maybe he’s anxious and uses eating to cope? It very sad and I hope he gets some help. Maybe therapy even though he’s so young.

Have a chat with all the volunteers so everyone is on the same page. If some volunteers give him more, he will keep trying. I would just keep explaining him that every child just gets one portion.
My 2.9 is being a devil.
Like it's becoming unbearable. Screaming at me, back chating, crying screeching when she doesn't get her way. Never listens. Nursery is also having a hard time with her.
I recently had a baby. How do I manage her behaviour when nothing works. Nothhhhing works.
When is this tantrum phase over....

My first is a girl, she is 4 and is a dream. My son is 3, as the weeks go by he is getting more and more boisterous, high energy, won't listen, lashes out when he's kicking off, throws absolutely everything, destroys pretty much anything he touches. I'm currently pregnant with my second boy..and I'm terrified to be honest. The idea of having two boys, 3 years apart, is really filling me with dread. I wouldn't say I'm a natural boy mum, I've really tried to embrace all the boy things he likes and try to understand boys more so I can do right by him, but I will say it doesn't come naturally to me, I do it because I love him so much.
Has anyone got two boys? What are your experiences? I want to feel better about having two, but I'm open to all experiences!
And if anyone has any advice on how best to bring high energy chaotic boys up, I'm all ears!

Hi all! We just got back from our 4-month pediatrician appointment, and they mentioned that we can start introducing food! I was a little surprised because I always thought you were supposed to wait until 6 months 😅
have you started solids yet, or are you planning to wait? If you did start around 4 months, how did you begin and what foods did you start with? Any advice or tips would be appreciated! 🥹🤍

My partner was great whilst on paternity. We were lucky and he was able to take 5 weeks off which was a huge help to me recovering from a csection and being a first time mum. However now it feels like im doing everything. He works shift work and is currently on an 8 day stretch with a variety of shift times. I get it, work is tiring but so is looking after a baby with very little sleep. He'll make me lunch before he goes to work or offers to let me go back to bed but by that point im too awake to sleep enough before baby will need fed again. I want him to help more but idk what he can do to help. I breastfeed and am cosleeping with baby so most nights hes through in the spare room.

My mum is obsessed with trying to get me to go baby groups. I live in a city and dont drive so its a lot harder than she thinks coming from a small town. Baby is only just 4 months and I think its still early for us yet. Hes been a very fussy easily overstimulated baby so I've not been in any rush to put ourselves through it yet but when hes older and sitting ill absolutely think about going. My mum is now saying he needs to go otherwise he'll be scared of other babies?! I just dont think she understands how hard ive had it. Im also EBF but she bottle fed so constantly thinks hes hungry.

Had my baby early by 1 month so didn't have time to do my full nesting which I was very much n looking forward to. On the day i came home after 4 days in hospital i was cleaning. I hoovered, washed our clothes and put washing on. Thew a lot of things away ect. No n problem and baby is 8 days old now ive been to the supermarket for a food shop, and taken my toddler to a play group at the library. Its this to much? Vaginal birth no complications. Done this with my husband in tow so he is helping a bit lool.
When people see me out everyone is saying omg well done or you should be resting but 1- really tricky with a toddler and 2 I need to get this done! Mentally I'm very active i like being out, I like being in the sun and we have beautiful October weather at the moment so want to enjoy it while it remains BUT am I pushing it too much? I dont know whats too much and also want my husband to step up if needs be and he will if i ask but dont know what i should actually expect from him. He asked me why is eveeyone saying well done and you should rest you haven't complained about anything and its true I haven't.. I guess im asking what was your expectations of your husband post birth? What did he naturally do and what did you ask him to do.
