I’m currently 36 weeks with my second and met with a consultant yesterday to discuss possible options - I am aiming for a VBAC and want to avoid another c-section at all costs. The consultant said to me yesterday ‘as you only progressed to 3cm dilated last time your chances of a successful VBAC are lower’ 😩 I found this really disheartening and it’s now planted a seed of doubt in my mind. I personally think everything went wrong when they intervened with an induction that hyper stimulated my body and hindered natural progress (leading to emergency section due to sepsis and babies heart rate dropping). However I’m now doubting whether my body is capable ☹️ has anyone had a similar first time experience and gone on to have a successful VBAC?

I only got to 5cm and it was deemed as failure to progress. This was January 2023 and got my VBAC in November 2025. It was a slow labour but I had a lot of support to get me there

I’m hoping for a VBAC after failure to progress -I got to 5cm but my body wasn’t responding well to the hormone drip and I was also made to lie down on the bed the whole time so I’m blaming it on that! X

I had failure to progress and heart decels with my first and had a csection. I did everything i can to have a vbac with my second, 5 membrane sweeps, 72h labor then at 9cm, baby had heart decels again and ended up with another csection. I was devastated. Ending up in cs sooooo close to the finish line was really hard.

I don’t think that should be a reason to discourage you from vbac. I progressed to 4 cm and my OBGYN is okay with me trying for vbac

I got to 5cm after being on the drip for 11 hours, I was 2cm when they induced me but my waters had already naturally broke 24 hours prior
I think if you are going to accept any form of induction to make sure you’re able to be mobile - I honestly believe if I wasn’t strapped to a bed on a monitor for 11 hours I would have progressed better if I was on my feet! I’d be asking if your hospital has portable monitors so you’re able to do that if you need to be on a monitor.
Luckily I had no issues with my induction in terms of heart rate, it was just a time thing for me where my waters had been broke for 3 days and they were concerned of baby pooping so we opted in the end for an emergency c section.
I’ll deffo be planning a VBAC with my next x
