So a couple days ago my husband and I had a huge blow out because he called me abusive to our 11 month old. Here is the context: our son is a cosleeping baby who still requires rocking and pacing to sleep when he’s uncomfortable or teething. Since having him my hips have been shattered with pain when I do this or any prolonged walking ( I have arthritis). About two weeks ago my husband went into hospital for a hernia, so I have been taking care of baby, dog and household alone for a couple weeks now. Couple nights ago our baby had one of those nights where I had to walk around endlessly. This came after a few nights of teething and me not getting any sleep. This led to me feeling really frustrated in pain and exhausted and like I needed some help even if he couldn’t carry our boy - I called my husband to come help me make a bottle, the bottle he made some how exploded in my hand and the milk was very hot. This kind of tipped me over the edge and I yelled at him, our baby was nearby so yeah he saw me yelling and angrily cleaning the mess. My husband instead of realising I probably needed a time out left me with the baby and went back to bed. So again I had to start pacing and rocking, this made me really frustrated and I stomped my feet a couple times. I know it was wrong and childish but I was on couple hours sleep over 4 days and very stressed. My husband rushed in and yelled at me “ you are abusing our baby. You’re acting abusively. Give him to me and get out.” This was really triggering to me, and I don’t feel what I did was abusive. Am I wrong?

You’re in pain and exhausted. You aren’t being abusive to your child. You may not have the best emotional reactions right now, but given the state you’re in it’s understandable. Like you said you need a break and help.

Omg, I'm so sorry this has happened to you! None of us are angels with a bottomless reservoirs of patience. We all sometimes let our frustrations show (when my lo was around 10-12 weeks, she was going through a bad case of what I believe they call the witcjing hour and a couple of times I lost my patience and just left her on the bed crying for a minute or two! My partner was there, so she wasn't left alone, but I did feel terrible fpr just leaving her like that and needing a minute to myself! Motherhood is so tough sometimes!). It does not make you abusive! It makes you simply human! I can only imagine how you must be feeling right now! 🤗 I hope he apologised after, cause that was a really out of order saying something like this to you after you've had such a hard night! 🙏🫶

Not at all. If anything you did the right thing by finding an outlet that was as simple as stomping your feet! God knows we need to release that tension somehow. Your husband was entirely in the wrong and needs to recognise how hard it’s been for you. When we were cosleeping my other half would often make ‘light’ comments about me napping during the day (essentially) and it was only once I spelled out I was doing like, 24 hours of childcare considering you’re never in a really deep sleep when co sleeping that he shut up x

I don't think so, but you should ask him specifically which behaviors he is talking about and why. Those are serious things for him to say and you don't need him going around telling people you're abusing a baby because you stomped your feet or "angrily" cleaned up a mess. I'm sorry you're even having to think about this and i hate his reaction was too turn on you. It sounds like a stressful time and I hope you are able to talk this through after getting some rest.
