Lonely Mom
I’m posting anonymously because I’m embarrassed to admit this, but I feel really lonely.
Last year we moved across the country, and I still haven’t found “my people.” I’m a teacher, so during the summer I go days without really talking to other adults. It gets isolating.
My husband and I love each other, but lately it feels like we’re more like roommates than partners. Most evenings he goes to the basement to play video games and drink beer while I’m upstairs. We don’t spend much time together anymore, and I miss feeling connected.
Somewhere along the way, I feel like I’ve lost myself. I used to have hobbies, friends, and things that made me feel like me. Now I feel like I’m just going through the motions—taking care of everyone else while feeling invisible.
Has anyone else gone through something like this? How did you find yourself again? How did you make friends as an adult, especially after moving somewhere new? And if your marriage went through a “roommate phase,” what helped?
I don’t necessarily need all the answers. I just want to know I’m not the only one who feels this way
