Dummy help please

Has anyone got any advice on dummies?

My little one will be 3 weeks old on Monday and I’m breastfeeding with the odd bottle to give me a bit of rest! He spends a lot of time on the boob for comfort, so I’m thinking a dummy might help.

However, he just won’t take one! He either spits it straight out or seems to gag on it. I’ve tried the smallest MAM ones, but they honestly look huge for his tiny mouth!

Does anyone have any recommendations for dummies that worked well for their breastfed baby? And how did you introduce it? Did they take to it straight away or did it take a few tries?

Would really appreciate any tips or brand recommendations! 🫶🏻

Both mine breastfed and won’t take, rather have the boob for comfort 🩷 better long run.

My first had the NUK dummies and took them straight away, this baby just spits it out

i have the exact same issue, although sometimes my boy will take the smallest tommee tippee one. it’s so small compared to the mam i’d say. he doesn’t take it for long but in the odd occasion he’ll fall asleep with it in 🙏 just like he does on the boob.

Most won’t as they want the real thing! It’s also not recommended to introduce any boob replacements (bottle dummy etc) for at least 6 weeks to allow your supply to regulate and avoid nipple confusion. They want to watch 24/7 at this age to establish your supply x

Honestly I’ve tried 4/5 different dummies and nothing works! My little one uses me for comfort and unfortunately there’s no escaping it! Just cherish this time whilst it lasts! X

I was in the same boat as you last week. I tried the smallest mam ones and he kept spitting it out, I tried the bibs one and had much better luck but i did a few things to encourage him to keep the dummy in.
First thing is have someone else introduce it, so he doesn’t smell your milk and want boob instead.
I also used a milk catcher or you could express a tiny amount and dipped the dummy in there before my husband offered it. The drop of milk that was on the dummy is a familiar taste and will make the sucking reflex kick in.
We also did kept trying it after a feed when he was happy. Also found we had to keep bouncing with him as that movement calms our little one down.
After a day or so I was able to offer the dummy too, but dipping in milk and movement has been what really helped us.

I loooved the Philips Avent Ultra Start soother & my little ones takes MAM bottles my sister in law tried as well after he refused the others but this one worked so maybe give it a shot! In Emma’s Diary they usually do a sample of it that’s where I got my first one :)

It’s always a little tricky at first. I’m on my 4th baby and she isn’t wanting a dummy right now but equally, she’s content without- actually a little scary when none of my others were like this.

However, like you, I needed a break with my other children (especially child number 2!) and I found the dummies with a more bulbous teat worked better.

I’d put a little breastmilk on it and also introduce it just as they pulled off my boob- in their sleepy state- and held it in their mouth for a little to get their mouth used to it, not in a forceful way.
It took a few attempts but it worked after several feeds.

Tommee Tippee was my go to brand.

It never interfered with breastfeeding either but….
It always made a rod for my own back in the long run 😂 no regrets though to get some peace.

midwives vs partners

Has anyone else had a negative experience with midwives treating your boyfriend/husband/ male partner poorly? It started with pre natal appointments where he was completely ignored, wasn’t asked if he had any questions or anything. I know it’s the woman who’s pregnant but he often left those appointments feeling like a spare part, despite trying to be as involved as he could.

My partner was incredibly supportive during labour, but in that tense senario all I needed was his hand to hold and squeeze, I didn’t need any more physical/ verbal support and the midwife’s made comments like “tell her she’s doing a good job” and I thought it was so unnecessary. This was our second child so I knew what I wanted and needed from him and we’d discussed this prior.

Appointments after birth were just the same. When the midwife came to our home to visit I was holding the baby and happened to be walking past the door when she arrived, so I opened the door and led her in. After doing th checks on our baby she made a snide comment like “we’ll give baby to dad so mam can get some rest” Little did she know he’d been up with him all night while I had 10 hours uninterrupted sleep. My partner had privately voiced his insecurities on not feeling like he was doing enough, especially in those early days. The constant condescending tones from health professionals made this so much worse and he put so much pressure on himself as a result.

Maybe it’s just my district but has anyone else had any experiences like this?

Amazing recommendations please 🙏

First time mom over here feeling totally overwhelmed and a little bored if I’m honest by all the stuff we are told we need for our babies, and then having like a gazillions brands all offering the same thing.

Anyone got any recommendations for their best ever pram/ 360 car seat combo? Bed side crib? Breast pumps?

Also anyone with advice on stuff they have bought that they did not use at all, or things they absolutely can’t live without??? Like do we need the bottle sanitizer or not? Do we need a nursing chair? Wipes warmer? Special nappy bin vs just a bin?

The internet really is telling us we need a lot of stuff, but I’m just not sure what to believe anymore. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. X

Undersupply

I am 8 weeks postpartum, I pump every 3 hours and I do a power pumping once a day, I drink lots of water, oats, under armour. And all I can get is 1 oz per boob every 3 hours, my question here is.
Am I going to be able to produce more ? Mom’s that were undersupply, were you able to produce more ? After all the power pumping, oats, supplements etc

My baby doesn’t latch and if he does after 2 minutes he gets super fussy. I don’t want to give up but at this point I just want to know if I ever going to get more 😔 it is mentally exhausting.

Baby daddy and his wife

Hey! I dont usually post on air out dirty laundry but I could use some new perspectives and advice on my son's situation! He is almost 7 years old and has had a stepmom since he was about 2. She moved in very quickly after the dad and I separated, they got married, and she was the sole breadwinner. Went to every appointment, every transition day, tried to make medical decisions, etc. Then she got pregnant and had a baby who is now 6 months old. Since she began trying to have a baby, her and my son began having relationship issues. Now that she has a baby, it is worse between them. He told me that he had a night terror about his stepmom shooting him and that when he told her about it, she responded to him by telling him to not talk about violence around her or her baby. His dad has also become distant and misses important events due to his wife's input it mostly appears.
Im concerned for my son and unfortunately concerned for my ex even though he was not good to me, I worry about him for the sake of my son who loves him. What on earth do I make of this situation and weird vibes???
Also note he has had a stepdad for the last 2 years now and I also have another baby with said stepdad, our daughter is 2 months old. He doesnt appear to have the same issues with my husband, they dont always get along, but their relationship seems strong and independent of me nurturing it.
Thank you for reading!!!!!
