To start, I'm not worried about our childminder - she and her assistant are incredible, such amazing lovely people with a wealth of experience between them and I absolutely know they're the right people to look after my son!
But!
He had a 2hr settling in session today and he was SO sad 😩 He's a sensitive little soul, not the kind of baby you can just hand to anyone while you pop to the toilet, you have to earn his trust! And when I picked him up he screamed all the way home which he has *never* done even when he was a newborn, like he was cross with me 💔
Does anyone have a little one like this - sensitive, tentative, shy etc - that they've sent to childcare? He'll be going 3 days a week from September and I'm just so anxious now it'll do some permanent abandonment damage or something 🙈

Don't worry, it's all a learning experience. Our little one is very clingy too, but also bit adventurous at times, so when he's content, the childminders don't have problems to distract him. I had recently same as you though with a 40 min session and he was good for few mins then screamed because someone left and when I came back to pick him up he was still whining... Broke my heart a bit too but I know it helps them learning being independent and happy in other surroundings. I mean every child is different and some probably need longer, but our childminder reassured me as well that it's normal and will get better.

I had this with my son he’s now 5, from my experience he would cry when I was there but the moment I left he genuinely didn’t care and then he would cry when he came out to me, it’s so normal because their comfort is gone but when they’re actually in there they just get on with it. I was a childminder for a while also and I had a couple of kids who would just cry because their mum was there and then giggle the moment their mum left and just get on with things xx
