Am I a bad mom?

My husband and I are going on a cruise this weekend. I saw that my son was potentially unable to go because we couldn't get his passport on time. I got excited. SO excited. I love my son more than life itself.. but a 4 day vacation without him felt like paradise...

Until my cousin told my husband that we could just use his birth certificate. I was so pissed and frustrated. This vacation is costing us $2000+. I wanted to be able to enjoy it. Now I feel ungrateful and a bad mom knowing he'll be coming. He's 4.. and severely hyperactive. I won't enjoy myself at all. Literally all I'm looking forward to now is the unlimited liquor šŸ˜‚šŸ˜….

I'm also an introvert. I'm going with my family. *Heavily extroverted people*

I hate myself for wishing he wouldn't be there.. am I alone on this?

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting a child free vacation, but the way you’re talking about your own 4 year old is what makes this weird. You’re not just saying you wanted some adult time you’re literally acting like your child is going to ā€œruinā€ a $2,000 vacation because you might have to spend time with him instead of drinking. He didn’t choose to be included, you’re the parent who planned the trip. Wanting a break is normal, but making your own child sound like an inconvenience standing between you and unlimited liquor is honestly pretty sad. And posting it publicly makes it even worse because one day that little boy is going to be old enough to read exactly how his mom talked about him. Maybe the issue isn’t that he’ll ruin your vacation, but that you’re expecting a 4 year old to accommodate an adult vacation that was never planned around him in the first place.

I never said you don’t love your son or that you can’t look forward to something besides him. Obviously you’re allowed to want alone time with your husband, especially if you never got that honeymoon phase. My point was the way you originally worded it. Calling four days without your child ā€œparadise,ā€ saying you ā€œwon’t enjoy yourself at allā€ if he comes, and then saying the only thing you’re looking forward to is unlimited liquor makes it sound very different from simply wanting some adult time. You can desperately need a break without making your 4 year old sound like the reason your vacation is going to suck. That’s the part I was criticizing, not you wanting a vacation with your husband.

I don't think you're a bad mom for wanting time away. I think all moms need a break.

I'm even considering taking a little 2-day weekend getaway from my baby too but I feel so guilty for wanting time away from her. I love her dearly but I just feel like it's Groundhog Day for me lately doing the same stuff over and over again with no break.

But for your vacation, since your entire family is coming, can't they help with him? I feel like that would help immensely with taking the load off of you.

Plus maybe you can't use this trip as away time from him but you can't plan something on a smaller scale where you can be away from him for a while.

I know having a toddler can be exhausting but there are typically childcare options on a cruise you could look into it would be worth the money to get a couple hours to yourself. I dont think I could go on vacation without my kids ever. Im having my second and it is going to eat me alive to be away from my son while im in labor. I never had a honeymoon phase either. I met my husband got pregnant and got married all within 3 months. You should really talk to your therapist about these negative feelings because it will effect your child. 4 years old is a very developmental year for a child. A real vacation shouldn't be something you have to be blasted through to enjoy.

Where is this vacation cruise going. Because you might still need the passport. But I don’t think there’s anything wrong with going baby yourself. If you have someone to watch him then do it! Have fun!

Most cruises if not all have kid camps where you can drop the kids off for a few hours if that helps any.

Switching to SAHM life

Hi Mamas, I am switching from working mom life to SAHM life this fall. Specifically it will be at the end of October. My son is 17 months now and will be 19 months when I am fully stay-at-home parenting.

Picture shared of my little guy trying on sunglasses as tax :)

1. What unexpected advice would you give me for this period now while I am still employed?
2. How would you handle the daycare to stay at home switch for my son's sake? 1 week of 3-4 days at day care, 1 week of 1-2 days, and then done? Slower transition?
3. On the scale of super regimented routine to absolute chaos, each day is different -- where are you? Is it by choice? What works and doesn't work with that style? Some moms swear by chaos and others swear by routine.
4. For moms who have made the switch when their little one was between 1 and 2, please tell me all the good, bad, and ugly about the switch.
5. We have a zoo pass and a museum pass (both gifts). What other kid friendly passes do you recommend?
6. What is the financial life saver trick that you swear by as a SAHM?
7. If anyone wants to be my SAHM mentor, please message me... I'm excited but nervous!

Best way to handle?

Got the below text from my babysitter. We're trying to work on potty training, but what is the best way to handle this, without him having to wear long pants since we live in Florida and it's HOT down here! He's 26 months and I also have a 7 month old that she watches during the day

Help. I spanked my toddler.

I didn’t mean to, it was on impulse and I feel terrible. I was trying to change her diaper and she was thrashing and kicking me. Next thing I knew, I smacked her bare butt. She’s 20 months old and I know the behaviors that have been irritating me are normal for her age. I’ve had such a short fuse and been short on patience this last week and I don’t know how to fix it. I’m looking for any advice. I don’t want to treat her this way or be this kind of mom.

Childcare tax free

I’m sorry to be annoying but I just don’t understand childcare tax free account on the gov website. My boy is due to start nursery next week and I’d like to take advantage of the tax free but I just don’t understand it.

Could someone please spare some time to explain it to me please?

Thank you

Feeling like a disappointment

Does anyone else feel like they’re just not the mum they thought they’d be?
I feel like I took getting pregnant so seriously, I knew I’d have to be patient and caring etc etc. I thought I absolutely can be those things and I’m ready to do it!
And I think really I am patient and caring and 9/10 I’d do the right thing and help people, but being a mum and there not being a choice of whether to care and be patient and instead having to be these things allllll the time just does my head in! It’s just exhausting to care all the time but I don’t feel like I can let up because what if i fuck him up?!
I’m 6 months in and I just find myself bored of trying to entertain the baby all the time, but if I don’t he just screams and cries and I just feel my patience massively dwindling - I’m just a bit disappointed in myself for acting/feeling this way 😫 I thought I’d take to it a bit more naturally!

6 weeks

I am feeling like such a terrible mom. My girl is extremely fussy, wont stay down much for a nap & isn’t eating normal. Yesterday she was up for 4 hours tried a car ride, contact nap, swing nap, bassinet snoo nothing worked! Its been a couple days & I feel helpless. I never went through this with my first- he was happy so much as I was holding him. I’m in such a panic state.
