Question

So I recently became a SAHM and I'm just curious how things are divided in yalls household. I'm primary caregiver, make the food and clean the home. Husband just works and comes home. We recently had a almost 10 week old. And occasionally he will help with bath time and take her for a few mins of the day. But I physically don't get a break. Unless baby is sleeping and usually I have other things to do at that point. I deserve a break too. My husband takes mental breaks out of his work and even gets some hours completely to his self. I refuse to just accept that this is how it is.

That's tough. I was in the same position and had a lot of resentment towards my husband but never communicated it with him. He just wasnt confident with babies so he just took a step back from it.
He helped in other ways but not in the ways I needed at the time. (He tried somedays)
But I think it's just important to have that conversation with your husband so it doesn't create resentment and you don't get burnt out.

You’re right to feel this way! I’m a SAHM. Our division looks like: he enjoys cooking so he is the primary cook therefore kitchen is his domain and he’s responsible for everything involving keeping kitchen running. Dishes, keeping it clean, grocery shopping etc. He shops/cooks on Sundays for the week. I do all other chores. I take care of baby during the day, he takes over at 7pm ish after dinner. He takes care of bath time, feeding her a bottle, putting her down for her first stretch of sleep. This is my nightly “break” where I can take care of myself or do whatever until bed.
There was a lot of trial and error to get to this point and we still run into days where things get off balance or someone needs to step up for the other. Lots of communication but resentment is a relationship killer so it’s good you’re addressing it!

That’s not how it is. I suggest talking to him and finding out a plan that helps you both. Often dealing with that too long will build resentment.. so I suggest getting a game plan together on what and how you wanna approach it and bring it to his attention. 🫂

My husband is very hands on. But in our state, men can get paid paternity leave very easily. That helped so much. My husband was with us nonstop the first 3 months and I feel like that did two things: 1. He knows taking care of baby & home is real work 2. He got to form the closet bond he could before going back to his job. Giving your husband some grace, if he hasn't had that day in and day out time with your baby, is it possible he is unsure or less confident jumping in and giving care? That's not to make an excuse, but just to say that babies are naturally more in need of their mother especially in the first year of life. Plus pregnancy & birth prepare us so much for the sacrifice. Men IMO have to put in a lot of effort in the beginning & play catch up in a sense. 10 weeks in, he may just be adjusting as to what his role is & how he can help. I would just have the conversation with him & come at from the angle of helping him form a stronger bond with baby, & would help give you the break you deserve ❤️

My husband normally cooks dinner (he enjoys cooking dinner) because I take care of our toddler and 3 month old all day and we take turns holding our 3m old so the other can clean so we share the responsibility and our 3m old hates being put down

Friends child

My best friend has a 5 year old and my daughter is 16 months old. My best friend is amazing with my daughter, and my daughter LOVES her so much. The problem I’m having is her son has a lot of behaviours, she’s in the process of trying to get help with him as they think he might be on the spectrum in some capacity. Her son loves my daughter and she loves him too. The issue is he is VERY aggressive, if he sees his mom giving any attention to my daughter then he’s throwing toys at her, pushing her over, going out of his way to hurt her and when we try to correct it he just laughs at us and gets worse and worse. I am not sure what to do. When he’s in a good mood they play so nicely but then something just switches and he will just terrorize her. I don’t know if we should keep having play dates but they love each other so much. I’m struggling. Has anyone had a similar situation and have any advice?

Housework

Does anyone find time to keep a clean & tidy house? Atm I just find time to keep the kitchen clean where baby's bottles are made and make sure he has clean clothes, my partner doesn't clean and it's been a bone of contention since we started living together he just says "it's tidy enough it's fine", I don't want to push the issue too much because he has helped a lotcwith the baby and me emotionally whilst I've struggled with ppd and I don't think I could bear the tension at home. Is anyone's home a palace with a newborn and it's just me 😂, I must add that he does do all the cooking tho, it's just annoying because when he has the baby I'm just catching up on chores and not relaxing or resting like I would want to.
