Back to work

I go back to work in 2 weeks. I've been lucky to have extended leave and my little one is 20 months. There are no nursery places locally and my family are 150 miles away. My job is work from home which I'm lucky but I'm so nervous of juggling childcare and work.

Is anyone else juggling it? Any tips

What about a child minder? I’ve had the odd afternoon, few hours where my toddler has been at home with me working and it’s just not possible full time . In fact it’s a nightmare 😂 Unless you work for yourself and can choose your hours I guess?

I'd be extremely careful, most UK employers will not allow you to be in the sole care of a child while you are working, and can be grounds for termination.
Have you spoken to them regarding this? Are they willing to support your hours being worked in split time during naps, after bedtime etc?

Any local childminders? Preschools take them from 2, maybe look there too? I don’t know how you’ll manage working with a toddler 😬

I get nothing done once my baby is home from nursery. On the few occassions I've tried to work after having to pick him up early like during the heatwave it was just a none starter. Even if i try he wants to play with my laptop, steals my mouse, starts crying because Im not looking at him 🤦🏼‍♀️

I’ve had to do this a few times and got nothing done. It’s awful. I felt like a shit employee as well as a shit mum. I use a child minder on the day my coparent can’t have our child.

You can't work and parent at the same time.

CHEATING OR NOT?

so over the course of several weeks my man has been acting really sketchy. like a little less than a week ago he went out with friends, and didn’t come home until 5 o’clock in the morning. he said he was at a car show ???

then i talked to my friend who ran into him at a bar one night. she told me that she saw him greeting a girl who walked in alone, and he took her purse and was holding it for her and they sat at the bar and were just talking and talking. once my man noticed my friend was there, he acknowledged her but then they scurried off and left.

also, he’s been going to this sushi restaurant and a dive bar to do his work “undistracted”

then i saw on his watch that he’s texting with some girl named destiny??

some of it is just sketchy. but would you consider his actions at the bar cheating? or that he’s texting some girl i’ve never heard of?

Breakfast ideas

Could anyone suggest any other breakfasts I could offer my 15 month old please? We alternate between Weetabix or toast. Sometimes if there is more time I’ll make banana pancakes. He doesn’t have many teeth so limited to things that are easily chewable but I’m not sure if there are any other suitable cereals he could try

Would you be annoyed

So 99% of the time I get the kids ready for the day, I do their laundry and sort their clothes and I also buy majority of their clothes
Sometimes my partner has a problem with what they’re wearing and will start critiquing or complaining once we’re already dressed for the day

Today was one of those days they were wearing a T-shirt and leggings and it was about 20 degrees Celsius the high of the day is 24 I feel like this is appropriate clothing for the temperature

We were about to go out in 15 mins and he started saying they need to change into warmer clothes, I’m tired of going back and forth with him on this so I said “if you want them to change can you change them” as I still needed to eat my breakfast for some reason he still had a problem with how I said it (I didn’t have an attitude or anything) but he couldn’t even say how he’d rephrase it

Anyways here’s what he changed them into (bear in mind they’re quite thick clothes if you can’t tell) I was wearing a T-shirt and shorts and still felt warm outside and he was wearing a T-shirt and joggers

Obviously for me this is 4 sets of clothes I need to wash rather than just 2 and even if I asked him to do the laundry I’d be waiting forever

Am I ridiculous?

I like my MIL but she is a lot and whenever my little girl makes a noise it’s ’do you want milk?’ Or ‘shall you have some more?’ When it’s clearly not hunger - she just goes straight to the bottle and it really winds me up especially as my baby is very sicky.
The other day my baby was having an awful wind episode (full on screaming) and MIL was trying to shove a bottle in her mouth and wouldn’t give her back to me. When me and my husband then ask for her to sort her out she always goes ‘no she’s fine with me!’ And once said ‘nanny knows best’. She also said to my LG a few weeks ago ‘are they not feeding you enough? Do they pinch you awake? Do they pinch you when I’m not here? Tell me all about it’ and I can’t stand it.
My husband is amazing and puts her in her place but she just doesn’t listen and she is now trying to make decisions on my LGs care e.g not using a swivel base in the car and just a seatbelt extender when she takes her out (she hasn’t yet but I don’t want to let her now especially as I’ve said I’ll put my swivel base in her car)
Am I being ridiculous getting upset about her doing stuff like this? Happy to hear some honest opinions.
