Maternity pay

Firstly, I just wanna say I recognise I’m in an incredibly privileged position and I’m definitely not taking it for granted. Secondly, I also really love my company and my bosses so I’m worried about falling out with them.

I work for a company that got bought out and therefore my contract changes mid mat leave. The first six weeks was under my old contract on statutory pay (90%) and the rest shifts to enhanced/full pay. The statutory average weekly earnings period was actually when I received my bonus so I would be entitled to more pay than a standard month under the 90% period.

I received my first payslip which would’ve had the first couple of weeks of Maternity pay and it was just my normal salary so I questioned it and they gave me the response that they were going to honour my new contract early rather than the statutory 90% of average weekly earnings (as if it’s a favour to me).

I was hoping for the extra money to cover the fact that my husband isn’t entitled to paternity pay but now I feel awkward saying anything to my boss as if I’m fleecing them of money or something and if they genuinely believe they’re doing me a favour by giving me enhanced pay rather than the “90%”.

Would you say anything or just be grateful to receive your normal salary?

I would gather evidence for your earnings during the qualifying period and calculate your 90% average weekly earnings. As it's a statutory payment that the business pays you and claims back off the government they are not able to decide to not give this to you. You are entitled to it.

But just be really careful your calculations are correct and you don't end up losing out because you've got the wrong end of the stick or something!

I had similar situation and after I’ve raised it, they explained to me that the first smp, the higher rate, would be calculated based on a period of time based on what you were actually paid so that includes the bonus. The rest is calculated based on the salary so it will not include the bonus you get as an extra but it’s calculated taking on your offered salary per year/12 months depending on how many months you’re taking. I don’t know if that makes sense to you but in HMRC they use 2 different names: pay and salary and they differ as the salary is what’s in your contract and the “pay” is what you get monthly and that includes any extra money you may be getting (example discretionary bonus) x

Unless, of course, they’ve given you different calculations before maternity and it was better, in this case, I would take it to your HR and ask what the new calculation will look like and raise concern if it happens to add up to be, in fact, lower then what they’ve presented you the first time x

My husband doesn’t want have sex with me after birth

My baby soon will be 11 months! When I found out that I was pregnant we stopped having sex atv5 months! After I gave birth we had sex after 4 k months because I had to make a point and get upset if it was up to him he would happily not have sex at all!

Summer came all the time we had sex because I initiate it! After the summer holiday we were apart from each other for almost one month - I have been back for 1 week and he literally not even once he tried! Today we are going out for a date night which he insisted, I am annoyed that I need to leave my son behind and on the way I said what is the point about date night getting dressed and leaving my son behind as we do not have a date at home (meaning we do not have sex) I feel we are becoming roommates! He is amazing father and husband! I don’t work he let me look after my Baby and pursue my dreams! But I don’t want to be in a sexless marriage.

Struggling with child starting school

I have 2 children. From a very young age I always wanted children. I then found out at 26 that I had endo and had fertility issues. I was unable to get pregnant. I then had a few rounds of IVF and finally got my 2 beautiful girls.

One started school a few years ago and is in her last year at her lower school. My youngest has just started school.

I feel heartbroken. I have no little people at home during the day now. I miss them so much and have cried every day this week.

I'm scared it won't get easier? I am scared of feeling lonely. They are my little besties and I feel so upset.

Has anyone got any advice or older children where you can tell me that there's so much more to enjoy as they get older? I will miss the little stage so much.

I always wanted 3 kids but not sure I can do IVF again due to costs

Trusting gym daycare

So my husband and I really want to go to the gym. He started going in the morning at 5am with a coworker but I will start going with him at night some days of the week. However, we don’t really have anyone near us that would be free to watch our baby that we trust when we go. The gym offers daycare services while we work out but I’m so anxious about leaving her with strangers while we’re working out even though it’s in the same building. Any advice on how to just accept the daycare services and move on?
