Bad day?

I’m wondering if any other moms have experienced something similar postpartum, because I’m having a bit of an off day mentally and could really use some perspective.

I’m about 2.5 weeks postpartum, and while I absolutely love my baby and feel incredibly grateful he’s here, postpartum has been much harder on me mentally than I expected.

The first couple of days I was extremely anxious about basically everything. I felt safest at home and found it really difficult to leave the house. Even getting to the driveway felt like a huge accomplishment. I’ve slowly been pushing myself to get out more, and there have been days where I feel like I’m making progress, but then I’ll have an “off” day and feel like I’m back at square one.

My anxiety can also feel very physical — faint, jittery, tingly, like I need to get somewhere safe. I’m also constantly worrying about the baby. Every change in his sleep, feeding, diapers, spit-up, noises, etc. can make my brain immediately jump to something being wrong, even though I know so much of this is normal newborn stuff.

On top of that, I’m incredibly sleep deprived. My husband is really trying to help, but I’m still doing most of the overnight wake-ups, and I’ve realized I’ve somehow convinced myself that his sleep is more important than mine. I’m starting to feel some resentment, which I feel guilty about because I know he’s trying.

And I think I’m also grieving my old life a little. I’m completely in love with my baby and wouldn’t trade him for anything, but I can also miss my freedom, my routine, my relationship, and the person I was before becoming a mom. I didn’t realize how big of an identity shift this would be.

I guess I’m just looking to hear from other moms who have been through this. Did you feel constantly anxious or afraid to leave the house? Did you have physical panic symptoms or constantly worry about your baby? Did you have good days followed by really hard ones?

When did you start feeling more like yourself again, and what actually helped?

I can relate to this so much, I’m currently 10weeks+5days postpartum and I feel the same on everything, I’m wondering myself when will I start feeling myself again or maybe it won’t change and I’ll just learn to adapt. I’m still anxious to leave the house, the only time I feel safe to do so is when I’m with my husband which is difficult when he is working 😕 I do sometimes have good days but that’s when I’m in my safe place at home but it’s also very isolating and makes me feel very lonely 🙁 I hope you’re feeling yourself soon❤️

I totally feel this but am doing it completely alone. My little one is 11 weeks old, 6 weeks corrected.. I think the fact that he is there is probably ironically making it harder. Going through this and having him not share the load half and half is going to definitely create resentment. I wonder if me not having anyone to resent made all these feelings less resounding. Like I’ve had to force myself through a lot. When my partner is home (he works offshore) I like get extremely irritated by his lack of involvement.. but the poor guy is only home for 12 hours then goes back out for another week on the ocean breaking his back for us.

Hello, 6mos post partum, and i still feel this. There are good and bad days for me. I was definitely anxious with all the newborn stuff, and going out was a struggle, too, but I have overcome that part a bit.

I am still sleep deprived. I struggled to sleep even before i was pregnant, and now, it just got worse.. I'm lucky to get straight 3 hours of sleep.

I resent my partner every now and again but am trying so hard to understand that he is working for us and definitely grieving my old life too and sometimes wonder if I'll be able to feel the same way before.

Love my baby to bits, but it is challenging, stressful, and all new (ftm).

You are not alone. Your feelings are valid.
I dont want to lie by saying it gets better cause sometimes, it just doesn't. I guess you just get used to it or adapt your way around it.. 🫠

Virtual hugs to you tho! Youre doing a great job 👏

My baby is 3 months old and I still feel this way a lot of the time, it’s gotten a lot better and i manage to get out on a nice walk every day with my baby and husband but i completely relate to how you are feeling. It is SO hard and everyone says it’s hard but nothing can prepare you for how hard it actually is, everything changes, and it’s so amazing, funny, beautiful, and lonely and heartbreaking all at once. You are doing amazing, you don’t need to push yourself to do things so early on postpartum, I barely left the house for 3 weeks. Try to enjoy each great moment that comes, and gather up your strength to get through the hard ones. Also totally valid to feel annoyed with your husband, as much as they can help, it’s still us doing 95% and that’s just how it will be until baby gets older and is less vulnerable and wanting mom. You got this!!

Oh mama. Sending you lots of love right now.

While I don’t fully understand these feelings and everything you’re experiencing, I’ve seen a loooot of women on this app share the same story time and time again.

Firstly, your feelings are valid. This shit is hard. You’re doing a great job.

Secondly, I’d be remised to also highlight post partum anxiety and post partum depression. It is sooooo common. This might be part of them. I wouldn’t want to chalk it up as “normal” as it could be something more severe. It also could be exactly that, normal feelings.
Everyone is different and feels things differently. I think it’s worth bringing up to your doctor at your next app/or six week app if you’re still feeling this way. If these feelings intensify or become unmanageable, I’d make sure you have someone to talk to about it. We don’t need to wait until rock bottom to reach out or ask for help. Women’s health is often dismissed and pushed aside. Make sure you advocate for yourself. 🤍

Partner not okay with breastfeeding

We started out with a combo of breast feeding and bottle feeding (formula and expressed milk) but I found breast feeding is just easier, quicker, less dishes.

Baby girl is coming up on 8weeks old and my partner is very uncomfortable with me breastfeeding with anyone around. I do my best to be discreet and respectful of his feelings but babies run on baby time. He won’t let me feed our baby if we are in public, I have to go to the car. If his family is over to see the baby I have to leave the conversation and go to another room while they continue to visit.

Has anyone else’s partner been uncomfortable? How did you navigate the conversation of “I’m going to feed our baby- idc if it makes you uncomfortable” without a huge fight?

Thanks in advance for any thought or advice!

Is constant crying normal for a 2 week old?

My 2 week old cries almost all the time unless being held or fed. Is this normal at this age, or should I be worried? Any tips for coping or helping to settle them would be appreciated!

Partner won’t let me stop breastfeeding!! RANT

I love, love my baby! But I’m tired of breastfeeding. LO is currently 14 months+ with so many teeth coming in, and I’m ready to stop BF. I actually wanted to stop at 12 months, but my partner begged me to give her a bit more time. Now, at 14 months, he’s guilt-tripping me into continuing!

Last night, I tried not to do the usual night BF. LO was fussing, and I tried consoling her until she eventually fell asleep. But before that, my partner went on a rant, saying I didn’t discuss it with him first before deciding to stop, that I can’t just stop abruptly, and that I should let the baby stop when she’s ready.

It turned into an argument because I was trying to explain to him that she probably won’t stop if I don’t guide her to, and I’ll have to stop one day anyway, no??

He made me feel like such a bad mum, saying I don’t care about the child.

Baby peeing through nappies

My 4 week old keeps peeing through nappies - we use cloth nappies predominantly and we’ve tried adding extra liners and sizing up his clothes so that they’re not compressing the nappy. We’ve also tried disposables but he’s just peed through 2 disposable nappies (and vests and sleepsuits) during 1 feed.

Anyone else experience this and have any tips?

How quickly after birth did you have sex/get intimate? I’m 5 weeks pp and feel ready but not sure why I have to wait until the 6 weeks? Should I wait
