My baby has just turned 9 months, he’s exclusively breastfed and obviously now weaning. He has never slept through the night, I don’t remember the last time I had a big block of sleep. At the moment there is no pattern, so I get anxiety most evenings not knowing what’s ahead. The biggest stretches seem to be 2 hours/2.5 hours, last night he then woke every hour after that first stretch. He is in his own room now as I thought we would be disturbing him, he’s had no trouble being in there as the sleep is no different really. I feed to sleep for naps and bedtime, sometimes on the first wake I can get away with popping dummy in but majority of the time he just wants comfort on the boob. My partner works long late shifts 90% of the time so I am doing most of this alone, but when he does try to settle him he goes crazy and won’t calm down until I come in. My baby has two naps a day currently, one around 2 hr 45 after he wakes (also wakes at different times) and tends to have an hour + nap in the morning, then another nap in the afternoon around 3 depending which can be an hour or so or less. Bedtime can vary because of that but tends to be around 7.30-8.30pm.
I go back to work in two weeks and I’m not sure how to navigate that.
I am feeling like a failure and I’m doing something wrong, I don’t feel like any of my friends have any of these issues and it’s quite a lonely feeling, I’m exhausted.

Hi Claire! Currently going through something similar, my boy has just turned 6 months, he slept through for a couple of weeks when he was 3 months old but since then we’ve been up every 2 hours through the night, his older brother slept through from 7 weeks & was formula fed so this is all very new to me. I think mine has a feed to sleep habit and he has never taken to a dummy so the only way I can get him to sleep is the boob. He is able to fall asleep on his own at bed time but after that he won’t go back to sleep without the boob. I have introduced a comforter about a week ago and he’s since been doing occasional longer stretches - might be a coincidence but things do seem to be slowly improving, no real advice as that’s the only thing we’ve tried so far but you’re not alone - it’s so hard, but it will get better ❤️

I felt like I could have written this back when my little boy was this age… everything you’ve written was me. I did it all alone and was waking 4/5/6 times a night but all I can say is you might try everything to get him to sleep through the night, only for him to just end up doing it when he’s ready anyway. I cut naps, extended naps, tried different foods before bed to see if I could fill him up, putting him in his own room, literally everything in that first year I tried. And then suddenly when I gave up trying all these different things, he just did it out of nowhere on his own and Then he stopped feeding to sleep on his own too. I am a true believer of there is no magical tricks to get them to sleep as every baby is different and will sleep through when they’re ready. I’m sorry it sucks right now, but I PROMISE you, you will get through it and it will end and you will get a full nights sleep again! If you need someone to talk too, my messages are open🫶🏼

I'd work to a clock based schedule using the earliest time he wakes so that the timings for nap and bedtime are consistent.
When do they currently wake, nap and go to bed?

Hiii, probably not what you want to hear but honestly this is really normal, doesnt make it easier but it truly is just to do with their temperament. My LO didnt 'sleep through' until 13 or 14 months and its been a rarity since then... now 16 months. The blocks did start to get larger around 11 months where shed do 5 hours ish at start of night! Its not for everyone but co sleeping is what saved my sanity- id barely wake to put her on boob, or reach and settle her, might be worth thinking about? :)
My 9mo sleeps from 7pm until 5:30 am ?
How can I get him to sleep in a little later until 6:30 !
Also regarding naps during the day are we capping those naps and waking them up or letting them sleep for however long they need it ?

I gave birth to my first kiddo a week ago today and all the doctors and nurses keep asking if I’m breast feeding and seeming… disappointed? Concerned? When I say that I mainly pump and bottle feed and then recommend a lactation specialist. We used formula the first couple of days at the hospital, but I now pump enough milk to keep up with feedings.
My baby just doesn’t always latch and gets frantic when he can’t latch and then it all goes downhill from there so we typically stick to bottles. He does latch maybe once or twice a day when he just won’t accept a bottle nipple or to comfort feed, but it’s easier for us to bottle feed. Should I be trying the breast first?

Formula fed 9 week old here. I got the impression that I was waking my LO up to feed when she was just wriggling a bit and not actually awake and hungry. So tonight I monitored her and indeed she just slept. Her last full feed was at 21:00 (she had a 40ml snack at 23:00) and I got so anxious that I woke her up at 5:30 as she still hadnt woken. She only had 70ml lol so I guess she just wanted to be left?
Any advice or experience? 🙏

I’m absolutely baffled…I had SO many people coming for me on TikTok because I said I top my baby up.
I had a rough start to breastfeeding, baby had jaundice & a tongue tie so she was on the boob 24/7 but wasn’t gaining the weight back that she lost. Everyone was super concerned and kept saying she will be admitted to hospital if I continue just breastfeeding. I was advised to pump at every feed. Then feed her that in a bottle after a feed. Then if she’s still hungry, give her some formula. She has never been sick from ‘over feeding’. She’s not a sicky baby at all. So there’s no signs that I’m giving her more than she can handle.
Anyways, It made her weight go up super fast, now that she’s back up to birth weight, the Drs, midwives, health visitors & lactation consultants have all told me to CONTINUE what I’m doing. It’s made her weight stable and it’s made her so much more of a happy baby.
Everyone on tiktok was saying that what im doing is dangerous and misleading to other new mums and saying i shouldn’t ever top up. Saying crying all day is normal because its to build my supply (even tho baby is on boob constantly + im pumping).
Im honestly so confused. What happened to feeding on demand? What happened to following hunger ques? What happened to listening to medical advice?
As if I’m being told by strangers to just let my baby be hungry all day. So so confused!
I NEVER knew topping up was viewed so badly and strongly by people!
I really wish I didn’t have to, I wish my breast was enough for her. I wish I could feed for 20 mins then leave the house but I can’t. She’d be on the boob 24/7. We wouldn’t be Able to do anything! I had 2 weeks of that before the feeding plan it was hell.

My little one is two weeks away from turning six months old. We’ve started weaning her on vegetables. A few weeks ago she used to sleep for five to seven-hour stretches but the last week has been awful. She wakes up every hour or two, crying but her eyes are closed. I rock her to sleep or sometimes feed her to sleep. The only way she’ll sleep for any length of time is in bed with me and my partner – not ideal! Has anyone else been through this or is currently experiencing it? Any tips on how to help my little one sleep longer or through would be really appreciated. Thanks! X
