Co sleeping

Maybe I’m being dumb but I don’t understand the concept of co sleeping for those of you who do it when baby doesn’t stay down in their cot. Am I missing the point or is there no difference in the two? I put my baby down in the bed the same way I put her in her cot. Am I doing it wrong? She wakes up and cries and doesn’t want to stay down. She wants to be held. I’ve tried to hold her, lie down and the roll over so she still thinks I’m holding her, but there’s too much movement and she wakes up regardless of co sleeping. Do other mums hold their babies or cuddle them when co sleeping? From the lullaby trust I can see that the baby is not being held in any way, so I can’t understand how I’m supposed to sleep if my baby doesn’t want to be put down even when co sleeping..

She’s 8 months old

Mine was the same when she was smaller. She would sleep on my chest. I also felt more comfortable having her on my crest when she was little

Co-sleeping is going to involve some degree of holding, snuggling, patting etc. Basically some amount of physical touch, like you said your kid likes to be held, they need that physical touch. Parents resort to co-sleeping because it's hard to keep getting up and getting kids from their cribs/beds multiple times throughout the night when they keep walking up. Bringing them in your bed means they hug, snuggle, hold, feed, or have some kind of contact with you throughout the night.

She sleeps on my chest or right next to me usually wrapped up tight so she doesn't notice if my arms are gone

You might want to look into safe chest sleeping. Do you breast or bottle feed? When I’ve done it in the past I’ll start with her in my arms while sitting in bed until she calms down then lying down with her in my arms, eventually placing her on her side on the mattress. Then rolling on to her back. One of my arms above her head and other across her belly. If all of this moment is too jarring you may have to take things in slower chunks

I’m currently loosing my mind because she won’t be put down and I don’t know what to do apart from sit or stand with her sleeping on my chest! It’s going to be a long night ahead… i genuinely don’t know what to do

My daughter has slept in my arms for 9 months! She will sleep in the bed or crib for a couple hours at a time when I put her down completely out, but when she wakes up she is back in my arms. It’s just a season of life and they will grow out of it.

When my baby was newborn she only liked to chest sleep. I had one of those large U-shaped pregnancy pillows which I would have behind my back and down either side of me, so my back/chest was more elevated and my arms were supported to stay up around her.

i held my baby for most of her naps as a newborn but when it was too much and i really needed to put her down i found it easier to put her down feet first into a kind of sitting position & then slowly lower her upper body down very gently until she was completely down, it helped with the startle reflex and she didnt stir as much. if she did stir i would gently hold both her hands & feet and do a slow rocking motion until she settled. we also used sleep sacks for a while.
hopefully this works for you!

We breastfeeding and baby sleeps on his side turning to me and im on my side turning to him. So i kinda hold him as he is wrapped up with me.
But i put him down when he is asleep. So rocking, feeding him to sleep and then i put him down.
He is also like to be held 24/7. He is 11 months now.

He still wakes up a lotz but because im there he goes back to sleep straight.

You might wanna try to have an extra bottle in bed? So she wakes up, give her a bottle just like you would breastfeed her in there and see if its working.

Mantras getting me through month 4 with my previously amazing sleeper 🥹

As most of us are currently going through it with sleep, i thought I’d share the things I’m telling myself at 4 in the morning when she is frantically thrashing around trying to connect her sleep cycles.

“Despite what people call it, this is not a regression. She is not going backwards, she is learning something new.”

“She is a baby doing baby things - sometimes they don’t make sense”

“Her brain is going through a massive change. Regardless of how tired I am, she is building something that will stay with her for life.”

“I can only help give her the foundations to get through this, this is something she will learn for herself, in her own time.“

“I am lucky that get to be here to watch her learn this new skill.”

“I will sleep again.” (Probably the most important one)

I know I’m finding this period tough, because before now we had a baby who only woke once during the night. These are nice reminders I repeat to myself when I’m tired (and awake at 3:45). I hope they might be useful to someone else in the same position.

Not sleeping in crib/ bed

I’ve got a 4 week year old and since birth, they don’t like sleeping in their own next to me crib or even on my bed and if so, it can sometimes last a few minutes when I put them down 😭

Baby only sleeps if on me or their dad. Any tips to get baby to sleep on crib/ bed without waking up after 5 minutes 😭

Hey everyone! Has anyone’s babies started to struggle to sleep?? My girl has turned 3 months old today and usually she will sleep from 8:30pm until 4:00/5:00am and now we are going from 8:30pm until 12:00/1:00am and then up every half an hour until 5:00/6:00am and it’s a struggle!! Any advice at all??? 💞

6 month olds sleep

My little girl used to sleep really well, she’d go down around 7pm and wake once for a feed normally around 4am then sleep till 7am. I have no idea what is going on at the moment but she is awful and I’m feeling so sleep deprived it’s starting to get me down.
She won’t settle now when she goes down, she’s on and off crying and whinging constantly and has been needing a feed around 12am and even then doesn’t sleep very well after, I just can’t work out what’s going on 🤯🤯 Is anyone else’s little one doing this? 🤦‍♀️ I have no help during the day, she has been napping for 15 mins maximum in the day time and I also have a 3 year old to occupy so I’m just dying for some decent sleep.
