Speech Delay?

She’s almost 21 months old. Bilingual household—husband speaks his native language and I speak mine (English). I know recent studies have said the anecdotal evidence of a lot of bilingual households are wrong—two or more languages aren’t supposed to cause a speech delay (but every single bilingual family I know has said their kids took extra time so 🤷‍♀️). She clearly understands almost everything we say in either language, and she’s saying the cute word for kitty in dad’s language and I swear her no sounds German (consistently NEIN/NEING and no one speaks German 😂). Her babble is mostly a sound repeated, not unique sounds combined. Occasionally she’ll slip and yell mama at me and when we get excited, she clams up with her mouth sealed. We are going to check in with the pediatrician but he has said before “bilingual kids take longer” so I’m looking for advice.

My bilingual son 2y7m is also behind his peers but constantly progressing so for me that shows he will get there might just take him longer. Whenever we’ve been abroad and spoke only one language with him he progressed much much quicker so I think it’s just hard for him to have two at the same time. We’re lucky both husband and I can speak the same language.

My mum grew up in a bilingual household and she didn’t start speaking until she was nearly 3 but was speaking both languages 😅

Also bilingual and speech delayed. My oldest was also speech delayed and now is 3.5yr old and switches fluent between both languages by himself. I’d definitely get into speech therapy, I wouldn’t wait it out. But if she’s understanding you that’s a great start!

Early intervention never hurts! In my opinion, it’s always better to get an assessment and not need it (or end up only needing it for a short time) than wait and see and potentially miss out on that time and those strategies.

Mine is bilingual too and 21 months old in 9 days. Barely says things! I’m gonna wait until 2 and then see how things go!

Hey my daughter is in speech therapy and occupational therapy. She started about a month ago. We may not be bilingual but she didn’t say very much a month ago. Now she’s a yapper and more of her words are becoming more clear. She’s not like talking full sentences or anything bc that’s not typical yet but she’s def saying way more than I’ve ever heard before lol

We do a child play base speech and occupational therapy together!

Gamer husband help

My husband works during the week and I’m on mat leave. I start my LO bedtime routine at 8pm and she needs to be held to sleep (she’s 12 weeks) so basically my bedtime has now become the same as hers. During the week he doesn’t get up at night to help with the baby because of work and he needs his rest but on the weekends he stays up all night playing video games and will complain that he couldn’t sleep.

I feel like if he’s up anyway, he could help with putting her to sleep but since she’s EBF, he will use the excuse that he can’t feed her so he can’t. Is it fair for me to be upset about this?

Edit: will also add that on weekends , he will wake up around 2pm but then will spend a few hours with her and encourages me to do something for myself. But it’s the nights that get me!

Dry nappies overnight – should I worry?

My little one has started waking up with a dry nappy overnight, but then has a big wee after feeding. Is this normal, and do I need to be concerned? Would love to hear from you all.
She has lots of wet nappies through the day and is having plenty of her milk/bottle through the day. She is 5 and a half months old.

Thanks all

Night time leaks

Hi mummas, I am honestly at a complete loss. My 9 month old is waking up every single night completely wet through. I have tried everything - Pampers (baby dry, premium protection & pull ups), Rascals & Peachies. I’ve tried different sizes of each brand. I’ve tried no vest. I’ve tried adjusting the way I put on the nappy. I’ve even tried putting on two nappies. Absolutely nothing is working. Has anyone else been in this situation? If so, what did you do please?!

Discipline at what age?

My daughter is eight months. She’s been crawling for a month now. Starting to get into things and grabbing things. Starting to throw herself back and cry when she doesn’t get her way. When do I start telling her no and letting her cry it out? Usually I hand her a toy or put on a show she likes. She already kind of listen to me. Example whenever we’re in the living room she crawls towards my cart I have set out for me with her stuff on it, I’ll say her name She’ll turn her around and look at me. I’ll tell her to come here/back and she’ll come. She knows the sign for milk and play so she’s very smart I just don’t know when I should start telling her no and be firm cause I’m not sure she understand that yet. I hope I make sense lol
