I was GBS with both pregnancies and I frankly don’t understand why you’d risk your baby’s health for the sake of some antibiotics.

Declining the antibiotics can put your baby at severe risk for sepsis, pneumonia, and meningitis. I had it and they just gave me the antibiotics through an IV, I was already hooked up to an IV so it’s not like it was inconvenient at all.

Antibiotics are really important If you have GBS. I wouldn't decline!

I tested positive but delivered quickly, so my baby only received 3.5 out of the 4 hours of antibiotics and I had to stay at the hospital for 48 hours.

Avatar

I was positive, definitely do the antibiotics 🙌🏻 It protects the bay instead of affects the baby . Gbs is harmless to you but can affect the baby so it’s only for protection

an untreated Group B Streptococcus (GBS) infection passed to a newborn during delivery can indirectly cause blindness, typically as a severe long-term complication of bacterial meningitis

Avatar

It is of course your decision but I would personally say the antibiotics are very important, my son came premature when I had GBS and the midwife didnt get the antibiotics into me as he also came quickly and therefore my son got sepsis because of this when he was born and was poorly. I was so upset the midwives didnt put the antibiotics into me.

Was posting with both pregnancies. With my first I had antibiotics every 4 hours and with my second there wasn’t time as my water broke 10 mins to delivery. My plan was to accept antibiotics again with my second. The effects of this bacteria are very easily preventable is how I look at it :)

i accepted antibiotics both times for mine immediately. unfortunately the lady next to me on the postpartum ward didnt and she told me how her baby was in NICU fighting for his life. dont risk it

Avatar

Why would you want to decline antibiotics? Genuine question I promise I’m not being a smart ass🫶🏻

Avatar

I declined during my homebirth with my midwife. We said we would asses the situation based on the interventions and risks as the labour developed but the labour was ok.

During my subsequent birth, I agreed to it as I was going to be at the hospital. I didn’t get into the hospital room in time and my baby came very fast so there was no chance to administer the IV antibiotics.

If you’re worried about moving around in labour you still can move about with the IV. Also your baby will still get microbes from you… not sure what other reasons you have for declining ?

Avatar

No because I’m not risking my baby’s life or health, like an idiot!

I had a friend who had GBS and the doctor’s forgot to give her the antibiotics and her baby died.

For those wondering, there’s a couple reasons why I’m considering not getting it, 1, it’s a bacteria which can be there one day and gone by the time labor is actually here, 2, the percentage of babies who get it who haven’t received antibiotics are only 1%, 3 antibiotics wipe out all the good bacteria and the bad bacteria, which can cause health risks down the line for both mom and baby as it wipes out every good bacteria for both of us which can cause more chances of sickness, so going into flu season and trying to rebuild both babies and my health will be almost nearly impossible to reduce the risk of baby getting a serious illness, I have 3 other kids, so just staying at home is not doable, 4 I’m a low baseline risk (as of now) no fever, no premature birth, water has not been ruptured for a long duration. 5 I give birth unmedicated and at a birthing center. I’ve talked to my center and they don’t give antibiotics, so I’d have to have a hospital birth which I’ve never had before.

6, my labors are under 4 hours, so there’s a good chance that I wouldn’t make it with the antibiotics the full 4 hours. Between getting to the hospital then setting it everything up i would more then likely be at the 2.5 hour mark. 7. The likelyhood of having a C-section and interventions goes up by 10 percent. My midwife and I went over everything today, and she gave me all the stats and statistics. I’m not sure what I want to do. I obviously want a safe and healthy delivery, but this has just changed my whole plans and I’m just feeling a little overwhelmed right now. Was trying to get some USEFUL advice not judgment or being called stupid. I was also just wondering what happens after. I’m just trying to take in everything and figure out what’s the best choice. It’s a lot to process when you’ve had 3 other perfect births and now everything youve planned is now completely out the window

I had GBS with my first baby. Personally, I would not decline the antibiotics. The risk of meningitis and life long complications from that are just not worth it to me. My oldest had no issues from the antibiotics at all. He was a flu season baby and we definitely didn't stay inside or away from people and he never had so much as a cold until after his first birthday. I totally understand being hesitant when it changes your plans, but personally it's not something I would risk.

Genuinely curious, why are you concerned now but not with your other 3 kids? Are you planning on breastfeeding as that will help your kiddo build their immune system but also they are protected for several weeks after birth by your immune system. Or this is my understanding.

I had GBS and had the antibiotics. My kiddo was around people from birth and the only issue we had was thrush. I should have been taking probiotics to protect my gut bacteria and didn't.

I would do the antibiotics every time. It would be easier to protect your good bacteria than for your child to fight off meningitis or sepsis.

It's just no a risk worth taking.

Ok ladies... Let's talk panties lol.

I am honestly sick and tired of tampons and pads. 🤣🤣 When wearing a pad I feel like it's moving and I'm getting my underwear messy. When I wear tampons if it's not in correctly it's horrible, if I'm not bleeding enough it feels horrible or when I'm not in the mood it feels horrible. And both make me feel icky so I've been thinking of trying period panties. What's everyone's thoughts on this one? And then if you do use them . TELL ME HOW THEY WORK! LOL Do I wear one all day or do I need to change it a couple times. What do y'all do? 🫣😄😜

How long did it take for you to get pregnant after coming off the pill?

Me and my partner have decided to start trying again for a sibling for our little boy, we know it’s not going to happen instantly but how long did it take you?

No sex during pregnancy

I’m 12 weeks pregnant and horny as hell 😭 My baby’s father and I broke up, but I don’t want to sleep with anyone else while I’m pregnant. It just doesn’t feel right for me, especially when I’m not in a relationship with them.

Part of me wants to reach out to my baby’s father just for sex, but I’m worried that would pull me back into something emotionally messy. I also heard that going without sex during pregnancy could make you more likely to tear during labor. Is that even true?

Has anyone else been in this position? What did you do?

Cheating

My husband has been cheating on me . I’m scheduled to have our baby tomorrow. What’s wrong with guys specifically the guy I married? Why does he hold insurance money over my head when I say I’m going to leave. Why does the threaten me with committing suicide? Why am I not enough ?
