Anyone working from home and raising a toddler?

I've been working full time from home since covid hit in 2020 and now have a 1 year old that I am raising. It's a challenge balancing work and being a mom/wife. But I struggle with the idea of putting my daughter in daycare. Anyone else in the same boat? If so, how are you coping? What are some tips that make things easier?

Check with your job as I know in the UK a lot of employer don’t allow you to have children at home when working x

I have a 13 month old and WFH in a corporate job. I admit I do have some help as my husband has 1-2 weekdays off a week and my mom sometimes comes over to help. But on other days I usually work from my phone instead of the laptop and end up working late in the evenings after she goes to bed.

I’m with you I have trust issues with daycare and we save more money doing this. It’s hard but my husband understands that baby & work come before a clean house. So this works for now.

She’s almost walking though so I’m gonna have a harder time keeping up than already do 😭 wish I could just quit my job!

I used to have a childminder come home and keep my toddler busy for a few hours. That way im still able to keep an eye on him when needed! I did that 5 dys a week from when he was 6 months old to a year. Then I switched to 2 days a week at nursery and 3 days at-home with a childminder for a year or so

Can you afford a nanny?

Yes! The struggle is real. She started ABA so that’s been helping

I work full time from home. Its hard enough having the children there in the morning and after school. However my role is customer service based no way I could do it full time with the little ones around x

I also wfm and have my 8 month old. Right now I have a hard time feeling guilty not giving more attention to my son, or my place being messier Im thinking I want to hire a maid to come once or twice a month to help with this.

I too, simply can not fathom putting my son on daycare. The cost alone would eat away any expendable income.

I have my child's playpen next to my desk. I pick out and rotate toys for his interests and try to do 30 to 45 minutes of work then 15 minutes of play every hour. On my lunch breaks I have something easy and fast so we can try to go for a walk outside. As he gets older I want to plan more activities or crafts for him as I work.

That’s nice your job lets you do that. I had significant anxiety postpartum about daycare. Since you’re home, you could find a student or someone in ur neighborhood who could babysit for u while at work. They could be cheaper than daycare possibly.

I have been working from home since my son was 3 hes 6 now & I love it. I’m a single mom & Sole provider for us so its a blessing to be able to care for him & keep an eye on him while I work for us. It’s such a rewarding Work life balance especially in the younger days, I went through job after Job having to leave due to childcare before switching to WFH🥹

I’ve wfh since 2022 & had my son November 2024. It was quite the transition lol I also am not a fan of daycare so it’s just me and him majority of the day unless his dad gets off early.
It can be tough but I try to play with him in between when I can. I do chat instead of phones so it makes it easier and he can play n b as loud as he wants. Some days he wants to sit in my lap tho so I have a spare keyboard and mouse he likes to play with lol

Reading y’all’s comments I’m now thinking about getting a nanny to play with him a few hours a day! 😆

Not quite a toddler but 7 months and WHM yes. 💕 you’re not alone!

I'm only just expecting but my plan is to do daycare only a few afternoons a week. Could you do something like that or get a nanny that comes and looks after her from your home ?

I have also worked from gone since Covid and now have a toddler and the struggle is real.

I luckily have my grown son living here and since he didn’t go to college he gets to babysit while I work

However I do feel guilty on both sides of the coin that my baby wants to come in my office and see me and me to spend time with him and the fact that my older one watches him (he could have gone to college though lol)
And then I Spark at night which has my tiny tot with me but he spends nights and weekends living in his car seat

I would love to be able to afford daycare but at 1200 a month that’s just not feasible and I don’t mean that as in I don’t want him around but I am almost 40 none of the people I associate with have small children so he has no interaction either smaller kids his age aside from church and I feel like he needs that interaction at times. So I completely understand where you are coming from. Don’t really have any tips because I’m lost in the sauce too lol

Me and my partner work from home and we take turns. He works till 6pm and I work 6:30-9pm so he tags in after.
Honestly, it's exhausting and can be so full on. We are in a sleep regression atm as he drops to 1 nap so it's hard, but I am so lucky to be able to spend the day with my boy.
I do sometimes wish I had my evenings to wind down though!

Any ideas what this is?

Have taken Eva to the pharmacist, A&E and the GP. They all said the external one is impetigo which I agree with. For her tongue (it looked a bit different yesterday and the day before when they saw it) one said dehydration and one said thrush. Chatgpt now says Gingivostomatitis? She can’t eat anything from the pain and antibiotics and thrush medication haven’t helped. Taking her again to the GP in a few hours. 🙁

nursery this young

My baby is currently 6 months old, and I’m already thinking about going back to work when he’s around 12 months.

Honestly, I don’t really want to leave him at nursery this young, but I also want to continue building my career.

For mums who started nursery around 1 year old — how did you find it? Did you feel like it affected your bond with your baby, or did you both adjust okay?

am i over reacting or ?

my bf just told me i need to go on walks because all i do is lay around and sleep... when i work full time still, manage to take the dog out when it's time and actively clean up around the house ?! i got upset bc it's like he's implying i don't do anything but sleep/ lay around but i only do on my days off... when all of it was a reminder to do his hair when he gets off work ? tb "you can go on a walk bc your body will be tired a lot some i'm not used, im playing around bc i used to burn 400+ calories a day".

Father in law giving sweets to grandchildren

My father in law gave my nearly 4 year old some sweets the other day and he said “in this bag is your baby sisters share”. Her baby sister is only 6 months old so I had to reinforce to her to not give her sister otherwise she can choke. My eldest daughter doesn’t fully understand risks etc. would you be annoyed with father in law? I’m very angry even though he was probably joking. Or am I overreacting.

I’m really struggling with my relationship — what would you do?

I’m posting this anonymously because I’m really struggling and would genuinely value some honest advice from other mums. ❤️

I’ve been with my partner for years and we have a 3-year-old daughter together. The biggest issue in our relationship has always been his relationship with alcohol. Before having our daughter, there were some really bad incidents where drinking and going out with friends seemed to take priority over our relationship.

Things did improve after having our daughter and the incidents became less frequent, but whenever he does go out drinking, I’m filled with anxiety because I never know what state he’s going to come home in.

Mother’s Day was particularly awful. He came home extremely drunk, was sick and urinated on the sofa, despite me repeatedly asking him not to get into that state. It completely ruined the day for me.

Then this weekend it happened again. He went out drinking and ended up walking home. I noticed through his location that he had been in the same place for around 30 minutes and couldn’t get hold of him. I was so worried that I contacted the police, but ultimately ended up getting my 3-year-old out of bed and driving around looking for him because I didn’t know what else to do.

Eventually he came home, clearly having passed out or fallen asleep somewhere, and then passed out on our brand-new sofa and urinated on it. The next morning he was still intoxicated and spoke to me horribly. This all happened with our daughter around, which is something I’m finding particularly difficult to deal with.

Now, as always, he’s saying he’s sorry and that he’s going to get help and stop drinking. But I’ve heard this before. This has been going on for years, and I’m struggling to believe that anything will actually change.

What hurts me most is that I feel like he has a choice. He could go out, have a few drinks and come home safely to his family — but instead he repeatedly gets himself into a state where I’m left worrying, cleaning up the consequences and dealing with the emotional fallout.

I desperately want to keep our family together. This is the only family life my daughter has ever known, and that makes the thought of leaving incredibly painful. But I also know I can’t keep living like this, and I can already see that it’s having an impact on my daughter.

I’m feeling completely torn and honestly don’t know what I should do anymore.

If you were in my position, what would you do? Would you give him another chance if he genuinely sought help, or would years of broken promises be enough for you to walk away?

Please be kind — I’m really struggling and just looking for honest advice from people who may have been through something similar. ❤️
