Feeling like a single mom when you're not

Anyone else a stay at mom, but feel like you're also single when you're not? My partner thinks that because he works he doesn't have to do anything else. The man is a trash man, yet I have to take out the trash. I do all of the kid stuff like doctors, school, bath time ect. He thinks that his job is harder than mine and it's always an argument. We don't drive and my daughter's school is a mile away and it doesn't offer transportation. I walk 4miles mon-thurs to get her back and forth to school, plus my son walks with us and catches the bus half way there. That's only the jist of it. I am also doing all of the cleaning and cooking. Am I being dramatic or is this normal? Like just because he works and pays the bills, I literally do everything else. Please tell me I'm not alone

Definitely not normal (although it’s more common than it should be). It’s totally not fair.

I know I was very clear with my husband before we even got married with my expectations about starting a family. I watched my sister be a single married mother and knew I needed more.

Early postpartum I was very explicit with the mental load that I was naturally carrying. I had to break things down for him, what I packed in the diaper bag, how I’m constantly thinking about nursing or pumping, his nap schedule, etc. It took my husband a bit but he caught on. And I would argue that I’m not the default parent anymore.

But my husband was receptive and open to my feedback. He wanted to make me happy and help out. He wants to be a good husband and father. He never pushed back, never complained, never gaslit me or turned it around on me. Never made me feel inadequate or useless. Idk what to do if your partner isn’t willing to put the work in. Or see that their current efforts aren’t enough..

The term is married single moms. Unfortunately it is very common although very unfair. For years I have thought about just doing like a reverse "lavender marriage" 2 single moms move in together, raise their kids together, and shit even marry eachother in case anything happens to the other everything is protected.

I'm also bisexual too, so ya know, it will have its other advantages ✂️ 🤣

This is not normal. My husband would NEVER allow me to walk alone. He's always told me how my job is harder.. when clearly that isnt true, he's a deisal mechanic. He takes out the trash. Tries to be involved in anything he can be with the kids. He tries to make all the therapy appointments his stepson has (ASD). Do I do all of the cooking and cleaning? Most days, gladly. Because im treated with respect and adoration. On my weak days he picks up the slack without any issue. Sometimes he even stays up after getting off work (night shift) to take the kids to school so I dont have to.. then brings me home a coffee. Don't settle for less than you deserve. You are not being treated fairly, he's taking advantage of you.

I feel that way all the time. Mine is disabled. He has end stage kidney failure. Has dialysis 3x a week plus he works. I know he feels like crap after dialysis and I don't hold that against him. But he could help more even with all his health issues. It feels so lonely.

Valid reason to question nursery staff?

Hello, I’m just wondering how other mums would react to this.

I picked our son up from nursery today and was greeted by his key person who told me he had a great day and told me what he had been up to, I then spoke to the nursery manager very briefly, pretty much just small talk. After speaking to those two, probably about 20 minutes in total, I walked to another part of the nursery to get our sons shoes & bag and bumped into another nursery worker who we rarely get updates from and it was only then that I was informed that our son had fallen on his face and that’s why his faced was bruised (I had assumed the bruise was his cheek flushing due to him being out in the cold). I was a bit taken back that I found out so casually and just by chance so I basically just said I’m glad he was okay & that he took it well (she had mentioned he was only down for a short time before he was back up & playing).

My biggest issue with this is that if it wasn’t for me bumping into this other nursery worker, we wouldn’t have known that he had a fall. This is also the fourth time he’s had a mark left from an injury at nursery and I know these things happen, but surely we should be getting updated about what accidents he’s had during the day?

We don’t want to overreact but we do feel like saying something tomorrow at drop off as it’s just not sitting right with us.

What the fuck is going on?..

My daughter is almost 4 months old and every day is getting really hard, she went from being happy and smiling a lot to being grumpy and screaming for no reason. Her feeding is all over the place and she refuses to nap - will only sleep when she’s so tired she just drops off..

Trying to settle her is becoming so difficult no matter what I try, she just seems whingey all the time and I can’t keep her happy for long. All I want to do is help and I don’t know how.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is it just a phase? How long will this last? What can I do to help?

School query

We are fortunate to be in a position where we have 3 schools my little girl could get into for reception. However, most of her nursery friends are going to one particular school. I liked this school, but just preferred another of our choices. I’m just worried about how upset she’ll be for not going with her friends. Has anyone been in a similar position?

Am I a bad Mom if I don't like staying with my children?

I have two children, one who is 3 and a half and one who is 6 months old. We just moved out of state, and before the move, I was working full-time while both kids were in daycare. I wanted to stay home with them and go to school, and I had this picture in my head of doing activities, teaching them things, and enjoying this time with a few hard days mixed in.

That has not been my reality.

My 3-year-old will not stop asking me for things. I go from one need to the next all day long, and I haven’t even had a chance to unpack. I barely have time to make myself food or get enough sleep. My 3-year-old has decided he doesn’t need naps anymore, and then he’ll intentionally wake up my 6-month-old just because he wants to. His behavior has been awful lately, and he doesn’t listen, even when it’s something important, like not running up and down the stairs. He questions everything, and I’ve gotten to the point where I’m yelling more than I want to.

I’m struggling. I’ve looked into daycare at least once a week because I’m so overwhelmed, but I genuinely want to make staying home work. I’m just so unhappy right now, and I feel like I’m failing at something I really wanted.

Does anyone have any advice? Has anyone been through something similar and found a way to make it work?

When did everyone go back to work and what age did you send your little one to nursery and for how many days to begin with?
