Should I let it go?

Guys.... my MIL name is Tammy, and my nephew (husband's side) is now 5, but everyone thinks he heard people call her by her name and has been calling her mammy/mammie/ however you wanna spell it. Now she is IN LOVE with being called it because it was his own doing and wasn't told to, which is great! Love that for them.... BUT my 1-year-old and soon to be newborn will be calling her that even though I told my husband that I HATE it. Is it just me, or does it sound awfully close to Mommy??? My daughter is still learning what things are and who people are/what to call them. She has called me and my MIL the opposite name, and I understand that kids will call their teacher or whatever mommy sometimes just out of habit of calling for their mom but.... mommy and mammie/mammy???? Kind of pisses me off honestly, and I know it probably shouldn't because it's not malicious, but let me have something, please!!!! I've tried getting my daughter to say certain phrases like when she drops something "uh oh spaghettio!" And she was saying it..... now my FIL is having her say "oh maaaiiinnnn" like... again, not malicious, but when it was known that I was getting her to say things because they were "following the lead" to start with and now changing things.... idk... I feel like everything I've been working on is going out the window because of what THEY want. I am pregnant, so maybe it's just that, but the MIL thing really gets under my skin. Even before getting pregnant.

Im British so trying to hear it in an American accent and honestly it sounds like the same word 🫠 I would be pissed too tbf. I would suggest speaking to hubby about it and how much it's grinding your gears. Maybe if you're comfortable for it suggest they call her Nanny instead. Still close to mammy but far enough away for it to not be mummy. Honestly mammy sounds like a really southern kid saying mummy. I would totally speak to hubby about it

I really just wish our parents and in laws would just be okay being called grandma or grandpa. My dad and his wife want to be called Pappy and Gammo. My in-laws want to be Poppop and Kassii (gma in their native language) my mom and her wife want to be Nana and Nani.

It’s really up to you if you let it go or not, I wouldn’t but I would also say something and let it be known why I’m not okay with kiddo calling MIL something so close to Mommy. Your child doesn’t have to follow suit of their cousin.

The aw maaaaiin would annoy me because my kids not an entertainment source. You’re right it’s not malicious but in what world would a toddler say that šŸ™„
My sister tried to get my not even 2 yr old to ā€œtwerkā€ because she taught her 2 yr old how to shake her butt and I about ripped her head off, that shit is NOT cute. Our girls are 4months apart. Went off topic there sorry but ya no speak your mind if it’s bothering you girl!

Are they french ? I'm french speaking Belgian and common name for grandma is Mamie and grandpa is papi.

Same here! That’s how you say grandma in MIL’s language however I speak french and baby calls me mama/maman. I made it clear to dad from the beginning that he wasn’t going to call her that because it means mom to me and it’s how they’re going to call me. It wasn’t the first boundary we had to talk about (she took the no kissing and no posting on social media really hard) so she kind of just accepted that one easily! Took a couple nicknames to try out but we’ve settled on Nana!

Its a cultural thing i think. Im mexican and I called my grandparents Mami and papi. My mom was mommy, mother, momma. Same for dad. I dont mind if that what my mom wants to be called but thats because its a thing you know? Its whatever your comfortable with.

How many of you SAHMs make your husbands' lunch everyday?

Does he get a sandwich plus 3 other items? Does he take care of himself? My husband's been so weird (back and forth) about this issue and I can't figure out if it's my problem or his.

Partner/money advice

Hi everyone,

I want to put this out there to see what other mums think and whether or not I’m being mean to have these thoughts. Last night me and my partner were talking about our finances/debts and the debt we took out whilst I was on MAT leave. The conversation ended with us re jigging how we pay things and now we’re not splitting our money (which was his idea to begin with) and he said he will start to attack our debts and that means he’s chucking more of his money into our joint debts and how that’s what he’s doing for us. Am I wrong for not feeling super grateful as the reason we’re in this debt and the reason we originally put our money together is because we agreed to have a child. It feels like he’s saying oh I’m so great to our relationship because I’m paying off more of our debts - when in reality he earns over 20k more than me a year & we took out these debts on the basis of our incomes being put together?? I don’t know I just need some other opinions on this please haha

Ladies, make sure you have financial backup! Always have a plan

It’s not all men but it does happen!

Hi, I’m Kate. I went through a separation almost 6 months ago after being a stay at home mom for 5 years. I have a degree in biology. I tried to get a job for two years but my ex told me no. Now that we split up, I looked for jobs for months with no one responding to my emails or applications. When employers find out I haven’t worked in 5 years, they don’t call back. The jobs who will hire me, do not pay enough to cover even half of my bills or childcare. So I’m coming on here to just remind you ladies that yes, many husbands are amazing and supportive and will take the weight. And if something happens, you will still be protected. But not all husbands or partners will do that. I’m guessing most will not. So please, if you have a partner who has never been a good provider, if your relationship is rocky. Get a job. Get a remote job. Get a side gig JUST IN CASE. I’m now relying on my little hobby-turned business to make enough money to pay bills and it is a slow slow process. Everyday is stressful. Every bill is late. I should have found remote work years ago as a backup when I knew in my heart that someday I would leave. Take care of yourselves ladies. You’re already taking the load of childcare and everything else so I know it’s a lot, but if you have any doubt at all about your relationship, make sure you have a plan! Don’t be like me

The struggle of 2 under 2

How are we coping with 2 under 2?!
I'm finding the logistics of the 2 almost impossible.

My toddler wants constant attention and constant snacks. My baby has reflux, wants to breastfed all the time, hates being put down and hates the carrier. I spend most of my day feeding and holding her upright which means things like playing with my toddler, preparing snacks, changing toddlers nappy are so hard to do. I don't know what I can do to make it slightly easier?! Its 11am and I'm still in my pjs and haven't eaten 😭
