What do you do during wake times? Toys to keep them busy?

Hello! Now that’s it’s cold, rainy and dark earlier, we can’t always go out for walks - and I find the days long especially when the naps are short 😔 what do you do with your little ones all day? Any toy that you recommend that keeps them busy? I feel like we always do the same. Thanks!

I put mine in the walker and jumperoo when I got stuff to do. I sing with her sometimes. I do a lot of floor time. Like push ups and giving kisses. Helping her to try and crawl etc

Rotation to be honest, Tummy time, time in the play gym, time just on a mat no toys above but toys to the side to encourage feet grabbing and rolling. Practice rolling and following toys. We do nursery rhymes and I get him to dance a bit with his hands, he’s got a seat thing with toys he goes in sometimes just for like 10 mins at a time. Have a sing to the radio and a dance party in the kitchen, looking in the mirror or touring the house, side lying play stuff.

And to be honest braving the weather unless it’s a storm, just getting out in the rain anyway, either in the carrier with a rain cover or the pram and rain cover ☺️

We also go to groups (free ones at family hubs/community places) I do groups 3 times a week and then two free days to do whatever or see a friend/family. Going out to a group easily takes up half a day nearly

Its hard isn’t it! We are still trying to get out for at least one wake window which makes a difference but otherwise O ball is a winner, and the Little Einstein aquarium. And then do it ourselves rhymetime/sensory class on truly miserable days.

Nursery

Did anyone feel like it wasn’t the right decision for their family? Our toddler started nursery recently (only 2 days a week), and a few weeks in, I still don’t feel right about it? we technically don’t “need” him to go as one of us is always around, so all I can think about is the time I’m losing with him and honestly makes me feel so sad, and also wonder if there’s something wrong with me as every other mum seems to cope well? I was never really keen on the idea of nursery and it took us 18 months to decide, but I ended up giving in to the pressure that it would be good for him for the social aspect etc, and also the idea of sometime for myself seemed good as well. But now I just feel like the pros are not worth the cons 😭 doesn’t help that our nursery only offers full days, we would love to have the option of just half days twice a week. Also seems like he only enjoys it for a little bit and not the full days 😢😢

Just wondering if anyone can relate!

Porridge

What porridge is everyone giving to their babies? I was buying the tesco super smooth porridge in the big box but it has been out of stock for weeks! Any recommendations? Have tried normal Quaker Oats but my son prefers the smooth texture. Have also used formula branded porridge but it’s in such a small bag and doesn’t last us long at all. He is 9 months old. Thanks!

Nursery.

Hi, I'm going to visit a potential nursery tomorrow for my LO. She'll be just under 1yr when she starts.
Does anyone have any suggestions on questions I should make sure to ask or anything I should be looking out for?
TIA

Post partum rage

Does anyone suffer with PPR? I only get it when I'm putting my boy to bed and I have NO idea why. It's completely illogical and irrational but when he's messing around and won't settle I feel the fire rising in me. I get so enraged. Id never hurt him or anything I just have to walk out and take a minute to calm down.

I’m at breaking point

I need more support from my partner and he just doesn’t get it. He’ll help out then just go back to not helping. He works all the time. I’m stuck at home. He won’t let me go on a bus and he won’t let the baby go in other people’s cars and I don’t drive. I spend every minute and every day with the baby. He works a lot so when he has a day off all he wants to do is sleep or he says he’s going golfing. Where does my own time fit in? When he does make time for us, most of the time he invites one of his friends. Do you just not want to be around me? I feel like I’m being forgotten about by him and I’m irrelevant. Most of the time he’s the victim in the arguments because when I bring something up that’s upsetting me he turns it around and makes me out to be the bad person of that I’m the cause of everything. I understand that I maybe haven’t been showing up 100% but he struggles to understand the amount of responsibility that lies on me, the house, the baby, chores, remembering appointments etc. He’s suffered with depression so surely he can see that he’s just pushing me further and further away into a depression from his actions. I’ve told my mum I need more support and she is trying to help but as soon as I say oh can we reschedule one day she says that ‘I’m just trying to help and I don’t understand you’

Hitting other kids at school

My son started pre-k this year. It's been becoming stressful for me, almost once a week the teacher has to talk to me about my son hitting other kids, they put him on time out and he thinks it's funny. Today he almost got sent to the office. What can I do to improve his behavior?
Also if there are any good book recommendations on parenting?
Thanks.
