Hi, I'm going to visit a potential nursery tomorrow for my LO. She'll be just under 1yr when she starts.
Does anyone have any suggestions on questions I should make sure to ask or anything I should be looking out for?
TIA

Ratios, how many staff members are paediatric first aid trained (how lunch times etc are covered when staff go on their lunch and if there is always a PFA trained person present), a typical daily routine, their approach to a child who is unsettled, how they communicate with parents (apps etc) and how often you are updated throughout the day, how children are observed during sleep and what their sleep spaces are.
Also, if you go online you can check if there is any recent OFSTED visits etc and look at the reports
I may be a little OTT š

Sleep areas and protocols, policies and procedures, routines, what activities they do, look at changing facilities and check there ratios and qualifications

Also ask whatās included in the fees. My nursery only offer the 30 free hours in UK term time but everything like nappies, milk, food, trips etc is included in their day rate

Anyone else just feel like theyāre failing as a mom?
Yesterday my baby girl had a doctors appointment and my husband had to work so it was just me and her. We went to the dr and everything was great. After the appointment I was hungry so we went to a restaurant. When we parked, she had to be changed and fed. I fed her and changed her in the trunk on the bassinet part of the stroller because my backseat was too cramped and I hate public bathrooms. Weāve never used the bassinet and it had been in the trunk since we got the stroller (before she was born). I was in a pinch so I changed her, put her in the bassinet, and went about my merry way.
Later that evening I tell my husband about that experience and he mentioned how dusty the bassinet mustāve been and I just felt like pure shit after that. He didnāt mean it in a way to attack me or make me feel bad, it was just an observation he made. But I took it as like there was something wrong with me because I didnāt think about how dusty it was, I just needed a place to change her quickly. Since then Iāve just been mentally harping on that thought and feel like Iāve been failing as a parent because I didnāt clean the bassinet before using it.

Did anyone feel like it wasnāt the right decision for their family? Our toddler started nursery recently (only 2 days a week), and a few weeks in, I still donāt feel right about it? we technically donāt āneedā him to go as one of us is always around, so all I can think about is the time Iām losing with him and honestly makes me feel so sad, and also wonder if thereās something wrong with me as every other mum seems to cope well? I was never really keen on the idea of nursery and it took us 18 months to decide, but I ended up giving in to the pressure that it would be good for him for the social aspect etc, and also the idea of sometime for myself seemed good as well. But now I just feel like the pros are not worth the cons š doesnāt help that our nursery only offers full days, we would love to have the option of just half days twice a week. Also seems like he only enjoys it for a little bit and not the full days š¢š¢
Just wondering if anyone can relate!

Hi all! I suffer from cold sores and have had one which I've treated and has gone away. However my 6 month old baby has woken up with this red bit just below his mouth and I'm worried it could be a cold sore! He's well in himself and has recently been teething and discovered biting his thumbs. Could it be from saliva/scratch etc or should I be concerned it's a cold sore?

What porridge is everyone giving to their babies? I was buying the tesco super smooth porridge in the big box but it has been out of stock for weeks! Any recommendations? Have tried normal Quaker Oats but my son prefers the smooth texture. Have also used formula branded porridge but itās in such a small bag and doesnāt last us long at all. He is 9 months old. Thanks!
