Does anyone delay kids bedtimes when grandparents are over?

My in laws come over every Friday evening and so my husband doesn’t want to ruin their time with his parents so bedtime isn’t until 9/9.30pm. This is every week. Would you be ok with this? We have an almost 4 year old, 2.5 year old and 8 month old so it’s a tough juggle.

I rarely budge on bed time in general. My daughter really thrives in routine. If it’s a once in a while thing, it’s no big deal but every week is a no for me. Especially with three. HOWEVER, if it works for your family, don’t question it.

I've always been super flexible about bedtime with my kids on weekends. If we're visiting friends or visa versa, they end up staying up a bit late. Been doing that since they were 4 or 5 and they still have a strict routine during the week. It's what works for us, and we haven't had any problems with sleep.

Is he helping with bedtime/ wake ups or morning of they all wake up at their normal time? We do sometimes but if it's school the next day I try not to but my kids have fun when we have visitors. I let them. We don't have them as often as you so tho

Not anymore!!
We had a similar situation bedtime now is NO later than 8pm for our 3 year old. With grandparents our son wouldn’t get to bed until between 9-10 and it was not working. We just let them know that the late days don’t work because he needed his sleep (we were very much over the meltdowns due to him being SO overtired).

*Also, if our son goes to bed late he is overtired and falling asleep takes over an hour. Not ideal for 3 year old. And it does not matter what time he goes to bed he l wakes up at the same exact time every morning, so my husband and I both agreed we did not want to sacrifice his sleep anymore. Not fun for anyone.

If we have family or friends over, we still begin bedtime routine. One of us just steps away.

I budge on naps, but not bedtime.

Not with kids so young. After you have to deal with the consequences. My in laws visit earlier so their visit never mess with our kids bedtime schedules. (We never have issues if it's about 30 minuts or something if our kids handle it well. Bit more than that there's no way)

Honestly yeah it’s fine, it’s the weekend live a little

All the time for anyone for holidays an weekends.
If my kid falls asleep early on them they still hangout an put to bed for me

I'm flexible when it's weekend but if I saw it was having an adverse effect on the kids I would ask the grandparents if earlier visits were possible

Is this creating a bad habit

My son is 14 months old. He's ALWAYS hated the pram, since newborn. However, separation anxiety has peaked big time and now he just screams and cries in the pram... Unless we hold hands

Now, this is a difficult task when it's just me but if my partner is pushing I can walk beside and we hold hands. I'm not fussed about it but my partner thinks I'm giving in every time he cries and reaches out for me which is creating a bad habit.

My thought is one day he won't want to hold my hand🥺 he won't reach out for me so why would I deny the comfort he's searching for in that moment

Can someone reassure me that I'm not creating a bad habit.

Am I being irrational?

Just need opinions on if I’m being irrational about the safety of my 7 month old son. I’m a first time single mum. His dad is having knee reconstruction surgery and I’m worried about his visits during his recovery. He lives with his 75 year old mum, a dachshund who is a handful and had visits from his 13 year old daughter twice a week. They’re in a 3 story house, but he’s confirmed moved everything for our son downstairs. He will be on crutches and no idea how long recovery is, or when physio will start and has been very vague about everything regarding his recovery, saying the hospital hasn’t given him any information. So I arranged for health visitor to go and see what she thought. He kept saying his mum might be busy that day (she doesn’t get out as hip and knee mobility issues so I was suspicious of this). On the day of the visit where I wanted HV to see how his mum handled Harrison, she conveniently had a doctors appointment at the time of the visit, so she couldn’t check how she was lifting and carrying Harrison. He has told health visitor that his sister who attended the appointment will be helping during his recovery and that he would be out of action for the first week. When he dropped our son back, he said his sister works, so couldn’t be there all the time and that he wants him the first week. I have stood my ground and said we will be going by what you have told the health visitor. He’s also confirmed he will be on crutches. I’m just worried about our son’s safety with being dropped, or someone tripping over the dog, not getting to him in time if in danger or choking. I was told by him to “trust me” and painted as a controlling mum constantly. Just doesn’t feel right to “give in” and accept potentially he isn’t safe just to keep the peace 😔

Should it be this hard!?

I am struggling... i don't remember it being this difficult with my first born a few years ago, why is it so hard this time around?

I love my baby, but I miss my old life so much. I miss being able to give my first born any attention whatsoever, I miss being able yo leave the house quickly, I miss feeling normal...

I just needed to vent... i know its hard and postpartum is not easy, but this is making me question my sanity.
