My 11 month old son just completed his 1st two days of daycare, and now he's sick with a nasty cough. I'm starting to regret/ rethink my decision to put him in daycare. Did anyone else feel this way? Or went through this?
Side note: I have been a full-time SAHM. I had placed him in daycare part-time (3 days a week, 4-5hrs) because I'm in school for medical assistant and wanted the extra time to study. I don't have a village, family, or friends for help or support. So it was rough starting out school.
I want to do everything I can so I can provide for my son, but at what expense?! You know?

I was sick for 3 months after baby started day care started. My LO started at 7 months, and it’s been almost 5 months in day care. She would be sick for 2 days and get over it, but it would wreck havoc on my system. Before having a baby I didn’t get sick for years and my immune system was not used to being consistently attacked. Well things are much better now. I haven’t seen her get sick in at least 1.5 months. I’ve heard from lots of mothers it takes 3 months for parents and baby to get accustomed, which is what it did with me. I would say hold on, it will get better. Just may take a little bit.

my sister put my nephew in daycare and seems like he is sick every other week. She’s always complaining about it, it’s definitely annoying.

I worked at a daycare for a while and it was very common for kids to get sick and get sick from other kids quite often especially around this time of year it seemed like it was very often. But it definitely helps build the kids immune system too

My son got sick his first week of daycare. He’s been in for 8 months now and total he’s gotten sick I think like 5-6 times ever. Most of those were in the first couple of months. But you have to remember, if they don’t go now they will get sick later when they go to school. You’re not a bad mom for exposing their immune systems to things that will make them stronger. It’s a transition and transitions are always rough for everyone. It gets better.

As inconvenient as it is. It is definitely normal. After sending my oldest to daycare at 8 months, she was sick once a month until she was 2 years old. She got it all, cold/flu/hfm and the older she got the better her immune system responded.
If it’s too much, maybe you could look I to a nanny share? Where they’ll still be exposed to the social aspect but less kids?
