Transitioning out of EC hold and cleaning baby bottom

Hi EC-ers! Mum to a 10 week old here and have just started dipping our toes into EC with observations and a few attempts at pottying in the top hat using the classic EC hold (her back against my chest, facing away from me over the potty). Have managed to catch a few wees and a poo so far (which were very exciting) but have found it really awkward transitioning her out of the EC hold and knowing how to lay her down comfortably to clean her bottom without getting surfaces dirty. Especially the poo as we only managed to catch the second half and the first part she did in her diaper. Do any of you have tips on how to safely and comfortably move babies off the potty without getting lingering wee/poo all over? Or is that just part of the process? Thanks in advance!

I put a cloth down on top of the changing mat to put her bum on for cleaning after being on the pot

I would say have a wipe ready before starting and what I do is just lay the baby back to one side in my arms and wipe with the bum in the air. Done it this way since he was little and he’s still ok with it at 6 months along.

It depends on how dirty or clean the bum is. On a clean on you can switch to a one hand hold and wipe then lay baby down onto a clean diaper. Or you can place a wipe or three on a changing matt and place the bum on the wipe. I always had a changing station near my top hat potty so I would have a safe place to put baby dirty or clean.

Incredible, thanks so much for all the tips! I definitely have been scrambling for wipes post pee/poo so that’s a great tip. And will try the side hold for wiping!

I have been trying EC out in the comfort of our living room so no proper changing station there, but maybe I should take out our portable changing mat! Thanks all x

I have a wipe in hand and then just hold baby side ways while I wipe with the other hand

I transition my baby to have all her weight on my non-dominant hand and across the arm, so she’s sort of lying on her side along my arm. I have one hand on her leg/butt and a free hand to rinse her with running warm water. Could also use a bucket of warm water too but I never have enough time to prep a fresh batch when I notice she needs to be taken to potty.

Not sure how long I can continue this method for as she gets bigger, I‘ need to train my arm to hold more weight 😂 I’ve bought a bambino mio toilet reducer which fits my 9 week old sitting on it, just need to support her head and neck, so I’m planning to transition her to that soon.
