So, we just found out we are having a boy! We announced to my family and my mom’s response really got me. She has 3 very beautiful and smart granddaughters (2 are my nieces and one is mine)
She started crying and saying how her whole life she wanted a boy and finally she got one and she’s going to spoil him rotten. That she’s going to come visit all the time (she lives in FL and I’m in CA) she hasn’t visited her 16m old granddaughter once and her granddaughters that are in FL, literally 30 minutes away she doesn’t see.
Is this normal? Anyone else’s parents act like this? Why does it make me feel like she doesn’t care about my daughter anymore because now I’m having a boy?

😬 yikes

No, that's not normal and it's not okay.
It's one thing to have a gender preference and another to actually treat that child differently because of their gender.
What is your relationship like with her other than this? Is it something you want to have strong words with her about and try to fix things or do you want to cut her off?

as a child we had a rough relationship, as an adult we talk almost everyday. I know she’s excited because she’s has always wanted a boy. I just don’t want my daughter to be pushed aside when the new baby comes. I know how it feels because she would spoil my sister and I was kind of a second thought.

I mean, I guess I’d have a rule where she has to treat them equally and if she can’t do that to limit visits? It might be different when he’s actually here but 🤷🏻♀️

I would cross that bridge and have a conversation about it with her later if her actions are favoring the boy more.
Not right now. Worry about right now.
But I get it all babies are precious but when you have only one gender then get the opposite its exciting.
Im excited for my family if I have a boy next because its all girls on my side. It's been 40 years since a boy.

same we are all girls on my side and I get the excitement. Hoping she just said it in the heat of the moment and doesn’t mean it.
This is the last grand baby on my side and my husband’s side.

I hear you, wait until her actions change and then bring it up.
Worry about it later 🙂

Eww I don't like that
