Am I being a bad mum??

So this weekend my family had loads of Easter fun planned but my 2 year old has got chicken pox. She's fine in herself, eating and drinking fine etc.

We cancelled plans because we don't want her to spread it.

Ive also had plans to go out locally this evening once kids are asleep for a few drinks with friends, but my husband is giving me a hard time saying im selfish for still wanting to go.

Ive had a rough few weeks and really been looking forward to letting my hair down, kid free for a few hours and now he is making me feel like a shit mum. Am I?

I mean everyone has an opinion on what’s “right and wrong”… personally, I would stay home. Easter is for family anyway, but that’s just me. X

I'm not religious, so Easter for us is just about chocolate 🤣 shes with her other parent i think youre okay to go out for a few hours with your friends and have some you time, especially considering shell probably be asleep and you on the end of the phone if partner needed you. We have so much pressure on us its unfair. Time for yourself and your own mh is so important too xx

Its one thing to suggest you to stay home but he doesnt need to name call and guilt you

Like you said she’s fine in herself so go, you can always come home if she gets worse but honestly chicken pox isn’t that big of a deal most of the time you can have a few hours out when she’s with her dad. (Also she’ll more than likely be asleep) He’s using it as an excuse as he just doesn’t want you to go 🙄 he’s being the selfish one actually x

I bet if the roles were reversed he'd be fine if he was going out....sod him! You've said your child is fine and will be asleep anyway so off you go

Aa mums we do soooo much, I don't see why he can't let you have an evening off every once in a while. Just because you're a mum?! Is he incapable of taking care of the kids if one of them woke up? Or just jealous or possessive? I don't know him, so I won't assume, but personally, I think it's healthy for both parents to have some time off every once in a while and guilt trips about it are not useful.

Go out - you deserve it!

Sounds like he’s just annoyed as he’s been cooped up. Seems strange to go out Easter Sunday for a night out. I don’t think it’s selfish. Mine barely noticed having chicken pox.

Once the kids are asleep, I would say your time is yours and a supportive partner should be ok with watching his own kids for a few hours?
Why should it fall on mum only?

Why are you being called selfish what’s his reason?

Avatar

Well, is your husband cancelling his plans every time when your little is not feeling well? How often was he out since you had your daughter? How often were you out since then? I guess, he spent more time out than you did so far. Does he see himself as being selfish? I doubt he has that much self reflection... 🙄
If he gives you that attitude, I wouldn't let him go out with his friends anymore either, leaving you alone with the child - how selfish!!!
He is giving you that attitude only cause I am sure he doesn't want to be alone with his child cause it could become "stressful" if she wakes up and he doesn't want that responsibility? Could that be his reasoning?

I know it’s late, but can’t chickenpox be spread through your contact with your daughter? The virus would be on your clothes, skin, hair. So if someone else’s child hasn’t had it, it could spread via you hugging their mum on the evening out.

But I don’t think you going out while she’s ill or asleep is something you should be guilted for. She has two parents and he is there!

Help

My 2.9 is being a devil.

Like it's becoming unbearable. Screaming at me, back chating, crying screeching when she doesn't get her way. Never listens. Nursery is also having a hard time with her.

I recently had a baby. How do I manage her behaviour when nothing works. Nothhhhing works.

When is this tantrum phase over....

Parents of 2 or more boys

My first is a girl, she is 4 and is a dream. My son is 3, as the weeks go by he is getting more and more boisterous, high energy, won't listen, lashes out when he's kicking off, throws absolutely everything, destroys pretty much anything he touches. I'm currently pregnant with my second boy..and I'm terrified to be honest. The idea of having two boys, 3 years apart, is really filling me with dread. I wouldn't say I'm a natural boy mum, I've really tried to embrace all the boy things he likes and try to understand boys more so I can do right by him, but I will say it doesn't come naturally to me, I do it because I love him so much.

Has anyone got two boys? What are your experiences? I want to feel better about having two, but I'm open to all experiences!

And if anyone has any advice on how best to bring high energy chaotic boys up, I'm all ears!

Baby starting solids!

Hi all! We just got back from our 4-month pediatrician appointment, and they mentioned that we can start introducing food! I was a little surprised because I always thought you were supposed to wait until 6 months 😅

have you started solids yet, or are you planning to wait? If you did start around 4 months, how did you begin and what foods did you start with? Any advice or tips would be appreciated! 🥹🤍

How does your partner help?

My partner was great whilst on paternity. We were lucky and he was able to take 5 weeks off which was a huge help to me recovering from a csection and being a first time mum. However now it feels like im doing everything. He works shift work and is currently on an 8 day stretch with a variety of shift times. I get it, work is tiring but so is looking after a baby with very little sleep. He'll make me lunch before he goes to work or offers to let me go back to bed but by that point im too awake to sleep enough before baby will need fed again. I want him to help more but idk what he can do to help. I breastfeed and am cosleeping with baby so most nights hes through in the spare room.

Do you need to go to baby groups

My mum is obsessed with trying to get me to go baby groups. I live in a city and dont drive so its a lot harder than she thinks coming from a small town. Baby is only just 4 months and I think its still early for us yet. Hes been a very fussy easily overstimulated baby so I've not been in any rush to put ourselves through it yet but when hes older and sitting ill absolutely think about going. My mum is now saying he needs to go otherwise he'll be scared of other babies?! I just dont think she understands how hard ive had it. Im also EBF but she bottle fed so constantly thinks hes hungry.
