Please tell me it's normal for a 4w old to cry for hours like he's being burnt alive. Clean diaper, fed, did plenty of bicycle legs and got loads of gas out. Tried swadling, and any type of body movement. It's been 3 hours...

Hi there I am literally so sorry to hear. If I got severely traumatised in my life once, it was the first year of my first baby. I have been told it was colic, then they found he also had reflux, then they found he also had milk protein allergy but after these two resolved he kept still crying throughout most of the day and barely ever sleeping or doing anything else than being unsettled. He is now 3+ years old and is an amazing bright and special child but the sensitivity in his personality and temper didn't go anywhere. It might be you just have a colicy baby as they say, which lasts for up to 3-4 or max 6 months and or a highly sensitive baby like I did

It's extremely hard though, I know like few others. Very sorry to hear you're in it right now

Btw, if it helps, my next baby was the most chill and happy sunshine ever, always content with everything and self soothing from birth. She made me realise I didn't do anything wrong and I wasn't a bad mother with my first, I was actually much more tuned in with my first. If that's your first baby you may think about what you are doing wrong but the chances are really high you're doing absolutely everything right and the baby's crying has nothing to do with you and might be caused by discomfort but very likely it's just the way your baby is

It is very normal.
But some sounds or weird noises can distract or soothe them. I used to sing/pray for mine, or search some violin, generator sounds, rainfall, vacuum cleaner videos on YouTube.
I also did lots of skin to skin too.
Good luck mama.

My son did that. Could be purple crying. I played rain sounds for him. The sounds of a hair dryer and vacuum cleaner also helped
