What do you spend on food a month!? Family of 3

Hello, me and my partner are spending a lot on our food shop considering we use a lot of beans and pulses over fresh meat and cook from scratch to keep the cost down. But we are still spending so much and we can't figure out why it's such a high cost still. We are a family of 3.

Less than £350. More like £250 for two adults and a toddler

We shop at Tesco and we’re £100ish, but £120 when we need laundry stuff & extra toiletries lol

Avatar

Around £500 a month, that doesn’t include laundry stuff as we buy that in bulk from Costco. 2 adults and a toddler (baby isn’t eating yet) and we shop at Aldi x

Family of three and about £80-£90 a week. So probably around £350 a month? We buy our meat at a local butchers though as it’s far cheaper as he does us a cash deal 😂

I’m a family of 3 2 adults a 9 year old and baby on the way and we spend max £250 that’s with added luxuries that we wouldn’t get in every shop

In perspective for a family of 5(fully grown adults) plus a toddler coming up 3 we spend about £600 a month on food/washing bits. Works out about £100 a month each on food or £25 a week each which I think is pretty reasonable!

We budget £350. That includes a muscle food order of meat every 2-3 months, bulk order toilet roll, all household stuff (washing tablets etc) and a weekly shop.

Family of 3 - 2 adults and a 4yo (takes a packed lunch everyday).

Most months we have a bit (£20 or so) leftover so roll that over to the next month.

I budget £150 a week and now add a baby formula so £165 a week for a family of 5, I do pack lunches for my husband and toddler and me being off and then that includes nappies as well for baby and pull ups for toddler, that's dinners, snacks and washing stuff as well

Food and everything laundry and cleaning for about £600 a month.

That’s £150 a week ish for 2 adults and 2 kids.

Avatar

Probably under 300…… £50 most weeks, 2 adults a toddler and I’m pregnant, 80 this week but there’s always one week

Hari Beavis on tiktok or Instagram has the 5.3.10.5 method that helps save on grocery shopping. She has a 7 month old and a husband and she does a shop for £50 a week for the 3 of them. I have found it useful - maybe u would too x link below

£200 - £250 a month. We shop at sainsbury's and tesco with a few things from Lidl and M&S

I don't know how y'all spending so much less do y'all just live off frozen food? 😩🙈

I would say around £400 a month. That’s around £80/ £90 a week doing a big shop at Aldi and £10/ £20 topping up in between with milk, fruit etc. I meal plan, cook from scratch most nights, husband has a packed lunch at work, daughter has a school meal and I have toast for lunch most days, we don’t snack very much, we try to eat vegetarian 1-2 nights a week as meat is expensive.

I’m a family of 2 and I spend £200 a month

Me and my daughter, I’d probs say around 200-250 a month. I find if I do a meal plan and try use ingredients I’ve already got in it saves loadsssss. In the last 2 weeks I’ve spent probs 130. I find it’s the fruit top ups that are quite expensive and we go through fruit like no tomorrow 🫠 I’ve been doing each meal for a 5 pound budget too, it’s do able

How much do you spend on birthdays / Christmas?

Constant argument with my partner on how much is okay to spend! This year I have spent less but by thrifting have still got a similar amount of pressies for her, which he now says it’s both the cost and the amount of presents that bothers him.

I would say I spend approx £100 (slightly less / more depending). Same for Christmas.

Thanks in advance!

I don’t know if I should stay with my boyfriend

We have been together for coming up 2 years and we have a 5 month old baby girl. He was a great boyfriend and we spent basically every day together and then he had to go back home to live with his parents for a while in Wales and I had to stay in York with mine (personal family reasons on both sides). While we were apart I found out I was pregnant, he was happy, everything good. He would come to the scans and whatnot (as he should) but I had a really lonely pregnancy. Then he got a part time job in Wales and basically just kind of expected me to move there. I did because I didn’t want to be away from him or our daughter. I’m a very social person and he’s not, I’m happiest socialising with my friends and family and have a wide range of friends. He doesn’t speak to anyone but his family who we now live about 10 mins away from. His family are lovely and I get on with them really well but I feel really alone here too. I basically do the whole parenting thing alone. I’m with our daughter 99.9% of the time. He’s made ‘jokes’ saying if I want him to do all the baby stuff he will do it but he would want my maternity pay. I do a lot of meal prepping to make it easier and stress free so all he does is defrost dinner and warm it up and that classes as cooking dinner. He hardly washes up anymore. He drinks 2/3 of a bottle of whiskey most nights. He’s not a bad drunk or anything he just stays downstairs while me and our daughter are upstairs. He’s never done a bath time or a bedtime with our daughter. He has to be asked to do things for the baby and the house. Like have some initiative???!! I understand that relationships are give and take and a huge compromise and that they change after having a baby but I don’t feel appreciated or really wanted. I think he loves me but it’s easy to have me here. He says if we break up he wouldn’t be with anyone else because he couldn’t be bothered to date someone else. We don’t go on dates, no gestures or anything. I just feel like I’m in the way. And I know you’ll say to communicate with him but anytime I’ve tried bringing up moving back to York he makes all my points seem silly and ends up saying “you don’t really want to live in York tho do you?” And laughs at me. I just feel trapped and like I would honestly be happier and more free if I was a single parent because I’m not constantly irritated that he gets his own life and I’m stuck in the house with our baby and no social life. I love him and I want our daughter to have her dad in her life but at what point do I prioritise my happiness? Obviously the ideal situation would be that he changes his behaviour and starts acting in a way that values me and helps more but he prioritises himself over us. Any advice would be lovely💗

Friends

No judgement please,

I’m 34 years old, north east and never really had ‘my girls’ where we go for drinks and meals. I have friends but no one who would really invite me anywhere. Looking for at least one person who I can message (texts) and be like I’ve got my girl. Someone who would be willing to go watch musicals or a murder mystery at the theatre, cinema, coffee, walks, drinks. Looking for a friend for life.

Cheesy I know sorry

Getting out

Making it my mission this month to try and leave the house more😶‍🌫️ whats your favourite things you do just to get out??

I’m on maternity leave with a 4 month old and I honestly barely ever leave the house🫠 I go to a few free baby groups but have super bad anxiety and my baby doesn’t seem to like them that much so I don’t really talk to people there, and I’m getting bored of walking around the park
