Hey everyone, I'm feeling so frustrated with the lack of support from my partner. He feels like his role is earning money and mine is mothering but he doesn't have any boundaries with stopping work in the evenings to come and help me. We have argued about it so much and nothing changes. He doesn't take our daughter to any groups, swimming etc. even though he has a very flexible working week and has time to do extra curricular activities himself!
Is anyone else experiencing this? Or how much are your partners helping? I need to know if I'm expecting too much here š

He is selfish. You both are parents he needs to step. If he wants a family he needs to invest time and resources and put the Same energy as his job.

I would be lost without the help and support of my husband. He comes home from work every evening 5/5.30 and is fully hands on with the kids from he comes in the door. He likes to do bed time most nights and is fully present at the weekends. I even get to the gym 2/3 evenings a week while I leave him at home to get both gets ready and into bed.
So yes, you have every right to be annoyed and feeling like he isnāt supporting you like he should. Very frustrating and exhausting to leave all the āparentingā jobs to you. Xx

You are absolutely not expecting too much. I always feel like I'm bragging when I talk about my husband on here, but truly it's the standard all men should be held to. My husband works full-time usually 50+ hours/week and still does the bath/bed time routine for our toddler almost every night (if he's home on time). On his days off he usually makes at least one of the meals and actively engages with all of our kids. He takes them to activities when he's home. He knows their schedules/clothing sizes/appointments. I know that if I were to die tomorrow, my children would be incredibly well taken care of, and he would be able to handle it all- because he already does. That is the standard we should be holding all men to. I'm so sorry that is not what you're getting from your partner.

Youāre absolutely not expecting too much, you both agreed to have a baby, when heās not working he should be helping.
If youāre a stay at home mum thatās a 24 hour role, there is no clocking off. He can clock out of work, not out of being a parent.
Myself and my partner both work demanding full time jobs, then we both cook and clean, he does bath time every night; I do bedtime. He gets up with him in the morning so I can get ready for work, then we switch and he goes to get ready, 90% of the time I get downstairs and our little one is dressed bag packed and ready for nursery.
We both decided to be parents, so we both are

I set this expectation with my partner before I had a baby with him. I was a single parent in a marriage before and I said I'd not do it again. I'd do it solo because I absolutely can, because I did.
He's taken that very much on board and is the most present, hands dad. He does two nights minimum so I can sleep, up until a few months ago all the night changes (because she used my body as a bathroom for 9 months š¤£) and will do bath/bed while I wrangle my older kiddo, but if I'm on baby duty, he'll muck in with son as well! They go out and have fun independently of me.
It's a partnership anything else is just selfish, kike wanting a family but not to be an actual parent.
Jimmy in relationships do some great videos in this (he's been a main earner AND stay at home Dad)

Hi I don't know your exact situation but I have felt very similar up until very recently. The thing is, my husband started his own business and so he was very flexible and he would often even tell me that the whole day he hasn't been doing much at work so I was extremely resentful when he would come home and not dive straight into helping me. A few months ago he grabbed his business by the balls though and works from the moment he wakes up all the way till he falls asleep and also on the weekends and even though there was resentment at first (and even now sometimes too) I started telling myself that we are a team and he does things that I couldn't do, meaning, paying for all our bills, giving us this amazing big space to live and all the money is for me to use. And I do things that he can't always get up to do, e.g get kids ready in the morning, help me with bedtime etc. I find it hard to imagine that a businessman of a husband can still come home and turn off his phone

And be completely present, especially early on in building his business. If he is employed somewhere and flexible at that then I would demand a little more initiative and help but just personally for me I am trying to learn to appreciate and respect his role in our family which with all respect I literally couldn't and wouldn't want to do. That just made me contemplate that as much as he often comes home to a fresh hot dinner and clean house and asleep children not knowing what it took of me I always have security and plenty of money on my bank account because of all the work that he puts in and I don't see
Hello, I just want opinions on whether how Iām feeling is valid or if Iām just overreacting etc. And whether or not I should do anything about it.
So last week I mentioned to my mil the gift I was planning on getting my child for Christmas and what my husband plans to get our child for Christmas.
This week (she cares for our child at ours once a week whilst I work from home) she brings along with her a mini version of what I said I was getting as a Christmas gift and various accessories to go with it that I had also mentioned. I feel a bit odd that sheās brought these toys the week after I mentioned it and as such feel like itās an attempt to ābeat me to itā as now my childās playing with these items already, they wonāt feel new and exciting at Christmas time..
Am I being silly or is it valid to feel a bit uncomfortable about this? Iām not really confident or confrontational enough to mention anything to get myself, so should I mention it to my husband to bring up with her or let it slide? (I donāt want my husband to think Iām talking badly about his mum, I know she generally just cares and loves for our child and wants to spoil them).

Anyone else debated moving to Australia for the better life balance?
Me & my husband are 28 and 34 and we have an 11 month old baby. My husband is plumber in the UK and he is working 6/7 days a week and over 12 hour days, he really hasnāt been around much. I would love to move to Australia so he could be around more, the better outdoor lifestyle for our baby boy as well. The UK is just miserable in the winter and it makes it hard getting out as we live in the countryside. Also this country is going to shit and I just think weād be better off financially over there as well as my salary is triple over there. I get Australia have their own issues like housing crisis etc but it doesnāt seem as bad from friends & family over there compared to here.
Anyone else thinking the same?

I feel like I am at breaking point with my relationship. Weāve been together 3 years, weāre engaged and have a 20 month old together.
However, he does nothing around the house. He doesnāt help with dinner, bath or bed. I WFH 3 days a week and 1 day in the office so my WFH days, our daughter finishes at 1PM and he finishes work at 3PM so the plan was meant to be he would take care of her until I finish work once heās home but he doesnāt so I have to work after our daughter whilst trying to work, which is difficult with a toddlerš
My problem is, we live an hour and a half away from my family so going back there isnāt really an option as Iād be moving my daughter away from her nursery, which she loves and his family. We currently live with his nan as we were saving for a house and our wedding.
I just donāt know what to do, I can only tell him how I feel so many times and I just feel like I have no one to talk to.

Just looking for a some opinions/advice.. our little boy has just turned 18 months and me and my partner are desperate to start trying for baby no.2.. my partner works full time, I work 3 days a week.. we are just worried about money.. both our money gets eaten up each month with mortgage, bills and essential we barley have anything left over.. when we fell pregnant with our first it was the a bit of a surprise and we panicked so much on how we could make it work - we had just bought our house but 2 years later and we did it! Heās the best thing ever and my heart wants to give him a sibling but is that selfish?? Weāve got so much if our firsts baby things so we wouldnāt be starting again and I know more now what we would use and what is a waste of money? So we can keep the cost lower⦠idk is anyone else in or have been in this position?? Realistically are we ever going to be financially stable enough for more babies??
