What’s the consensus on toughening up nipples before we have our baby to help us adapt to breastfeeding? My mum wants me to vigorously rub a washcloth on them in the shower, and then start using a dry washcloth. This does not sound fun, is it necessary? I want to be able to breastfeed my baby without getting sore. Any mums out there have done this? Or not?

Most nipple pain is caused by a bad latch in the beginning and I don’t know why on earth someone would want to do that to their nipples 🙈

Omg my mom told me to do this too. My lactation consultant was like “🤯 do not do that!”

Girl! 😂 Ignore your mama unless you have a kink for these types of things.
If you have a good latch, you don't have to worry about this. Use a lactation consultant. Most hospitals have them and they will come around to your room to help you and baby.
If your nipples get chapped, rub your breast milk on them, then wait for it to dry. Also, use breast milk pads in your nursing/pumping bra because they will be sensitive to different fabrics in the beginning.

Wouldn’t recommend trying to prep…Agree with others that it’s about latch and what helped me was lanolin cream / balm after feeds and no need to wipe off since it’s safe for breastfeeding. It will be a learning curve for everyone but you will find your groove! Lactation consultants are so helpful, I went weekly for the first few weeks because it was just hard to get a good latch but got support and it all worked out. We are 10 months PP and still EBF.

My cousin used a soft sandpaper because it was horrible breastfeeding her first. I never did though

This is an old wives tale, and not necessary!

No prep necessary. I never bothered, barely sore and breastfed until 2.5

I would not irritate your nipples before birth! Just make sure you have good nipple care in case there is any nipple pain. Like cream, nipple shields will help sometimes (I used these for the pain and because my baby couldn’t figure out how to latch, it really helped)

Find a good lactation consultant! :)

Reading this made my nipples hurt 🤣🤣
Baby has been sleeping through the night since 10 weeks old. Is now nearly 14 weeks. I am still frequently up to the toilet through the night and I’m disturbing him. Considering putting him into his own room with the monitor. He naps in it during the day without the monitor and I can hear him as his room is right next door. Did anyone else move their baby this young? 🙈

Does anyone have advice on whether to wake a sleepy baby for feeding or changing clothes? I'm nervous about letting my baby sleep long stretches—what do other parents do if their baby misses a feed or needs changing but is sleeping soundly?

Just out of interest. At four months old now, is anyone’s little ones independently napping in a cot?
We can only get my little one to nap if he’s moving. In the car, buggy, walking around with the carrier. Sit down or stop and it’s game over. (Gutted I can’t contact nap, sit and watch Netflix like I did with my first 🤭) He can be fast asleep, lay him in the cot and he wakes up within 5 minutes.
He is currently waking up again every 2 hours in the night but has had some 5 hour stretches. Will sleep fine in the night... 🤔 is it just an age thing?

What time of day are we bathing our babies? We tend to feed 6:30am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm, 7pm, 10pm, 3am at the moment. I'm tending to do the bath at 7pm and follow up with milk, which seems to work well for us and helps him wind down for the evening. Just curious as to what others do!

Hi everyone - I’ve been co sleeping with my 6 month old baby since he was just under 4 months old and decided the cot life wasn’t for him.
Has anybody experienced any negative impacts of co sleeping, when you eventually get them into their own beds? In an ideal world he’d be in his cot so I can get decent sleep….but it just hasn’t worked out like that, and he sleeps so much better with me in the superking bed 🤣
Thanks
