Second pregnancy, same rude midwives!

Honestly, I can’t believe how we’re sometimes treated during pregnancy.

I went to my first appointment today and asked for a toxoplasmosis test because of a potential exposure (my husband cooked a half cooked venison burger 😑).

The midwife’s response? “I don’t know how it is in your country, but here we don’t routinely test for it. I’ve had a lady from France who wanted a test too because apparently that’s how they do it there.”

To which I replied, “I wouldn’t know, I’ve never been pregnant in France!” 😂 And just to clarify, I’m not even french, I’m belgian!

The whole appointment was honestly awful. I know the exact date of conception, but not the first day of my last period and my cycles are very irregular. Despite explaining all of this, I was told multiple times I was probably 9 weeks, maybe 10, when I know for a fact I’m 11 weeks.

Now I’ve been told I need to go to the Early Pregnancy Unit to confirm my dates (that I already know), because they’ve booked my first scan for after 14 weeks.

Absolute joke 😅

Honestly, if I could go and give birth in my home country and then come back with my newborn I would. The bar is SO low, NHS is running midwives into the ground which reflects on their care and in rates of birth trauma through intervention, lack of experience and lack of care

Honestly, i sometimes think people don't know how good they have it until they have it bad in a different place. And then the people having it bad come here and they are amazed by how good it is here.
Sometimes you just have to accept how they are doing things. They will never ever send you for a test just because you want it, just because you are suspecting, and not even presenting symptoms. And toxoplasmosis is not even that easily transmitted from one person to another. I think you would have gotten away with it if you would have lied ab some symptoms 🤣.
And i also had my negative experience with my midwife and I changed her and even reported her; then i had an amazing midwife who actually listened to me when i was talking to her (probably because of what happened with the previous one).
And i also thought i was more pregnant than they told me (i also knew my ovulation and conception date), but apparently they need to know the period dates as that is how they are counting, not from conception.

I had a terrible midwife my first pregnancy, they placed me with her again for me second so I called up and asked to swap! If you can do that I suggest you do! My midwife was awful she would forget to do urine and blood tests etc and I’d have to remind her she said because I’m young everything will be straightforward so she didn’t have to talk to me about things going wrong when in fact my labour and birth ended up high rush then when we had my daughters newborn appointment she completely ignored my worries about my daughter leading to my daughter being in and out of a children’s hospital and gps all the time in the first few months of her life!

Baby measuring small / further growth scans

So at my 20 week scan, baby was measuring on the 8th percentile but the ultrasound tech said baby looks healthy (organs and other measurements etc.) and the uterine Doppler and blood flow to baby are fine and within range. However, because baby is under the 10th percentile they want me to have additional scans at 28, 32, 36 and 40 weeks.

I know these scans are just to see if everything is ok but I went down this route with my first baby (for the opposite - being too big) and they picked up on the smallest of details to worry about and I felt forced into giving birth early, thinking about induction and c section (which ultimately did end up in cs).

I would love a VBAC/HBAC this time, and know I have the right to decline these scans etc. but I’m conflicted as I want to make sure baby is healthy but I also don’t want to feel like they’re deciding how birth is going to go for me.

Has anyone had a small for gestational age baby and everything been fine? Anyone declined growth scans and all be ok? Just after some advice on what I should do as my head is spinning at the moment with all the possibilities…

No bump at 17+5

Who else has not had any bump yet at over 17 weeks? I'm almost forced to call my midwife to raise my concerns.
I feel like my bump was bigger between weeks 13-15 than afterwards.
Is this something to be scared about?
My dating scan showed I have anterior placenta, I'm not sure if there's any relation between them in any way.

What were you doing when you went into spontaneous labour?

What were you up to when your waters broke or the first few contractions started?

I’m 40+1 waiting for something to happen and just trying to pass some time so tell me your stories 😂

Those who were induced, did you end up having a C section?

Out of all the people I have spoken to, all of them ended up having 3/4 day inductions that ended in c sections! It’s left me on edge about whether to have an induction if offered.

Anyone else not doing a 1st birthday party??

I am a mum of 2, I have a 4 year old daughter and an 11 month old son. We had planned a family party at our house with all our families but having had a kitchen renovation recently which has gone way over schedule it looks a bit of a mess. We also have a lot going on and decided to cancel the birthday party. Instead we are taking him to a farm just us and having a quiet celebration with just my husband and my daughter. Someone told me that i was being silly and I shouldn’t care about the kitchen etc which made me feel really guilty.

Is anyone else not worrying with a birthday party? I didn’t realise it was too much of a think for 1st bday parties!
