What should you not wear while breastfeeding?

It’s totally up to you what you wear while breastfeeding, but some nursing clothes can make the experience a bit easier and more comfortable for you.

There are a few types of clothes that lactation experts advise steering clear from while breastfeeding or pumping, because they can be uncomfortable, exacerbate clogged milk ducts or mastitis, or even impact your milk supply:

• Avoid tight t-shirts or camis ‒ these can be a faff to get off while you’re nursing and can be too tight on your breastfeeding boobs.
• Avoid your usual bra ‒ nursing bras can be much easier to work and can provide support and comfort.
• Avoid dresses that you have to pull over your head ‒ also not easy to get off when you need to nurse
• Avoid light colors (in the first few weeks) ‒ the likelihood is that you will leak, and darker colors are better at hiding any spilled milk.

Is it OK to go braless while breastfeeding?

Yes, of course, if you’re more comfortable.

However, by not wearing a bra, you can be prone to leakages getting on your clothes more easily.

But if you have larger breasts, wearing a nursing bra that gives you the support you need is recommended, to avoid strain on your back.
