What are names that start with an X?

X names for girls are pretty unusual, which means any name you pick from this list will guarantee your little girl is getting a special, one-of-a-kind name.

Many names that start with Z, S or J could be replaced with an X at the first letter for a more unique and modern feel. (Spoiler alert: some of them are on our list.)

And with girl names that start with X growing in popularity, you’ll find a lot of newer names on this list too.

So, without further ado, here are 54 female names starting with X:

  1. Xia. This super cute baby name is of Chinese origin and means ‘glow of the sunrise.’
  2. Xena. Yep, just like the warrior princess. If you want a badass name that starts with an X, this might just be the one. Aside from its associations with a TV hero, from its Greek origins, Xena means ‘hospitable’.
  3. Xenia. A variation on the name Xena, Xenia also means ‘hospitable’ and comes from Greek roots. From the Greek word xenos, it can also mean ‘stranger’ or ‘guest.’
  4. Xara. An alternative (and maybe cooler) spelling of the name Zara, this name means ‘fruitful’ in Aramaic. It’s also similar to the Arabic name Zahrah, which means ‘flower.’
  5. Xandra. A nickname for Alexandra, but also a great name on its own, Xandra means ‘defender’ and has Greek origins.
  6. Xochitl. This Aztec origin name is mostly used in Mexico and it means ‘flower.’ It’s pronounced ‘soh-cheel’ or ‘soh-chee’ (with the L sound dropped at the end).
  7. Xiana. This modern name derives from the more traditional Juliana, which means ‘youthful.’
  8. Xantia or Xanthia. This Greek origin name means ‘yellow’ — perfect for any golden-haired little ones.
  9. Xin. This simple, Chinese origin name means ‘beautiful.’
  10. Xiola. A more modern name, it’s possibly a version of the Greek name Ziola, which means ‘life’ or ‘alive.’
  11. Xiomara. Possibly a version of the Spanish name Guiomar, this badass name means ‘battle ready.’ So we’re pretty sure any baby girl with this name is going to be ready for anything that comes her way.
  12. Xoe or Xoey. Another way to spell the more traditional Zoe or Zoey, this Greek name means ‘life’.
  13. Xavia. A newer name, Xavia is the feminine form of the Spanish name Xavier and means ‘bright’ or ‘splendid.’
  14. Xaviera. Another variation on the boy’s name Xavier — but this one’s closer to the original.
  15. Xavienna. This is the last of the Xavier-derived names on this list. If you’re looking for a particularly unique version, this could be it.
  16. Xaiya. An Albanian origin name, it simply means ‘loved.’
  17. Xina. An alternative spelling of Zena, this Arabic origin name means ‘good and beautiful.’
  18. Xyla. This adorable Greek name means ‘wood dweller’ — and is perfect for outdoor lovers-to-be.
  19. Xylia. An alternative for Xyla, this fairly modern outdoorsy name is still pretty rare.
  20. Xiao. This gender-neutral Chinese name has several meanings: ‘dawn,’ ‘little’ or ‘respectful and reverent.’ It’s one of the most common Chinese names in the world.
  21. Xitlati. This Aztec origin name, pronounced sit-lat-ee, means ‘star’ or ‘star goddess.’ Because of its origins, it's most commonly used in Mexico, but we think this wonderful name could work for a baby anywhere in the world.
  22. Xelilia. A modern spelling of ‘Cecilia,’ this name of Latin origin means ‘blind to one’s own beauty.’
  23. Xeni. Pronounced ‘sheh-ni,’ Xeni is a name used in Guatemala and means ‘protector of plants or flowers.’ Choosing this name might just mean that your baby is guaranteed to have a green thumb.
  24. Xamira. This precious name is believed to be of Persian origin and means ‘diamond.’
  25. Xio. A nickname for Xiomara or a name on its own, this Spanish origin name works for a baby of any gender.
  26. Xaria. Although this is seen as a newer name, it can probably be traced back to Arabic origins where Xaria means ‘connection’ or ‘path.’
  27. Xandri or Xandria. Forms of the Greek name ‘Alexander,’ either of these options can work perfectly as a nickname for Alexandria or on its own.
  28. Xristina. An alternative, modern spelling of the name Christina, this name means ‘follower of Christ.’
  29. Xhuliana. A name of Roman origin, Xhulia means ‘sacred to Jupiter.’ It’s also another spelling of Juliana, which means ‘youthful’.
  30. Xadie. A more modern way to spell Zadie, this name of Hebrew origin means ‘princess.’
  31. Xabrina. This is an alternative spelling for Sabrina, which has Celtic and Latin origins. The name is believed to refer to someone from the Severn area, but also may mean ‘legendary princess.’
  32. Xhanell. A modern version of the French Chanel, this name means ‘pipe.’ But it’s much more recognizable as the name of the ultra-famous fashion brand.
  33. Xuriah. This super cute Arabic origin name means ‘angel of heaven.’
  34. Xally. Another new name, this one derives from Sally. It means ‘princess.’

Emergency scan

Hi! I went to triage on Saturday night for reduced movement as I hadn’t felt baby all day. I was checked over with Doppler etc and sent on my way - midwife said everything was great.

I’ve just been called by the hospital that I’m booked in for an emergency scan and it’s just taken me by surprise. Has anyone else experienced this?

How does everyone do it

I’m 8 weeks pregnant and have a 3 year old and I can’t even get out of bed without being sick, can’t even stand for longer than 2 minutes, my toddler is basically living on snacks as I can’t get out of bed to cook, I can’t even take him to nursery I feel terrible, I’m only 8 weeks and have so much longer to go 😭

Birth plan

Debating between natural birth vs C section.
Labour lengths, recovery times afterwards, control involved in a c section, pregnancy again after c sections.. give me your experiences/opinions. 😊
(Also, if the hospital was 1.5 hours away would that affect your decision)

Early labour?

Im really unsure if what I’m having is the start of labour or just digestive pains? I’ve been getting sharp/crampy pains across my abdomen and back which come and go every 10/15 mins, not really typical period like pains yet but they are very noticeable. I feel like it’s been getting more painful since this morning, but at the same time I’m having diarrhoea and nausea. The only difference I’ve noticed is the pain is not going away after going to the toilet or position changes. I’m going to call triage but I thought to wait and see a few more hours. BTW I’m 37 weeks
